Re: Who do you use for homeowners insurance?

I was recently dropped by Travelers and now have Narragansett Bay. I changed a few minor things on the policy and my rate is now $1k less than it was with Travelers.

We had State Farm but were dropped after Sandy.

We have Narraganset Bay now, and I used Jen Jennings, an agent on here, to help me find a policy.

I have Narraganset bay as well- I am also on the south shore- but 2 miles from the water and All State wouldn't touch me

I would be happy to provide you with a quote. My company deals with over 15 different carriers. We write in the water, or miles away. I have issued policies for a lot of the women on this site :) Feel free to message me here or [email protected], or 631-650-4036.

Definitely call Jen! She'll find you the perfect carrier.

Here's a recent REVIEW I left for her.

Who do you use for homeowners insurance?

We are now just switching to State Farm. It's cheaper than our renewal and we're getting better coverage.

Re: Who do you use for homeowners insurance?

I spent an entire afternoon on the phone yesterday and called all the companies that were listed. We ended up with All State and bundling our auto and home which ended up saving me $200 a year in home $200 in auto so over all I think I did pretty good.

I'm not even near the water but so many companies I called kept saying Suffolk county is in a coastal zone and they don't insure in Suffolk at all. I really feel bad for those that live closer to the water because it must be really hard for them.

Not sure if this is a silly question but what's the benefit of going through a broker like this? Is it that they do all the legwork for you? How are they getting paid? I always thought your rate is higher to cover their cost.

Right now we have Narragansett Bay, but we go through an insurance agency. They have automatically switched it for us when in the past interboro increased the rates.

We use newbridge coverage in bellmore and we have been very happy with them

I'm new to this (currently buying a house) and also have the same question! Our umbrella plan quoted at about 1,500 so far and if people are paying half, I want to know how I can too lol

Brokers have access to insurance carriers that the general public do not. We are paid by the carrier, not by the insured. The carrier basically pays us to find them clients, so they sell their product at a "wholesale" value. Allstate, State Farm, Geico, pretty much any Insurance Carrier you walk into to purchase insurance can only sell their product for the most part. They are agencies, and they work for the company. Brokers work for the insured.

Who do you use for homeowners insurance?

I have had Liberty Mutual since I moved out to Long Island in 2006. I probably could get slightly better rates if I switched, however Liberty Mutual stuck with me during all those years when other carriers were dropping customers. Because of this I feel a sense of loyalty to them. That may change eventually as I have been getting steady increases in my premiums.

ETA: my Liberty Mutual agent in Queens is also very good, he responds back to me pretty quickly with any items I may need so I also take this service into consideration (vs. having to call an 800 number and go through a call center)

Under a mile from water and use Interborro. They are the cheapest out of the 3 carriers who will write south shore under 1 mile from water. $$$

A lot of people start shopping now, this way when the bank asks for everything, it is already set up. Some wait until the bank asks, but if you have the time, I would say the sooner the better.

I also have Narraganset, but I bet they will be expensive. We are close to the water (NOT on) and so we can ONLY be insured by 2 (I think) insurers in the state.
