Re: Who has a Tivo?????
it hooks up to your tv - but you also have to hook it up to a phone line or the internet for it to download the program information.
the telephone call is like once a week and it does it a 2am, so you dont even know it happens. i have mine hooked up to my cable modem.

Re: Who has a Tivo?????
We have tivo and have had it for about 2 years....I absolutely love it! But we just recently moved and cabelevision gave us a free DVR box for a year and we have been using that and although it has only been a few weeks, I really like it better....
With Tivo, if you are recording something, you can only watch other recorded programs, not live TV...and you can only record one program at a time....With the DVR from cablevsion, you can record two programs at a time and if you are recording, you can watch something else at teh same time....
Sorry for the long answer, HTH!

What's that? Obviously we don't have it. I'm probably the only one in the year 2006 who tapes her shows on a VCR

That depends on the TV you have and what type of Tivo box you have. They are now selling dual tuner tivo's; and we have our TV inputs setup so we can watch tv and record at the same time, even without the dual tuner Tivo, just using alternate video inputs.
It's a whole big mess of wires back there.

no you can only tape one thing at a time.
the wonderful thing about it is the Season Pass - like I just say record "friends" and it will find every frineds episode, whatever channel, and record it.

If you get a 'dual tuner Tivo' you can record 2 at a time.

Re: Who has a Tivo?????
We have Tivo. We love it!!! We can watch tv and record at the same time. We have a switch in the back of our tv that allows us to do that. I have no idea what it is called though. I'd have to ask the hubby. It's great though. I have the lifetime subscription, so it's a one time fee. I highly recommend it if you aren't home often or go away a lot.

That I don't know. I *think* they were offering upgrade packages from older devices to new devices. Maybe you would have to pay one fee for the upgrade since you're lifetime?
There is also an HD tivo, but I dont think thats really worth it...

Oh yeah, look at that - the most they offer is 3 years at a 2 year price. That stinks! We just bought a 1 year, since we didnt know if we'd like it or not. Now, I kick myself.

I think it stinks that they aren't doing lifetimes anymore. I think if you have them already and you buy more boxes/upgrade, you should be able to keep your subscription. It's so worth it.

we have dvr through comcast now, but we used to have tivo. it was several years ago and we were able to use some kind of AB switch so that we could watch one channel and record another. i don't really know how you set it up, but i can ask my dh if you'd like.
