Who hosted your bridal shower?
I was planning to plan my friend's bridal shower. My friend originally said it would probably be a small brunch type affair with friends. Now it will be at her mom's house and the entire extended family is invited including the groom's side.
Is it obvious that her mom hosts and pays?
Should I still be offering to host and pay?

My mom and sister. Not sure if my BM's contributed monetarily or not.

I am not sure. My friend originally mentioned brunch with ~10 good friends with possible half day spa type thing.
Now it sounds like there are going to be a lot more attendees (at least 50). It will be much more family than friends.

If her mom doesn't know about your original intentions then I doubt she thinks your hosting. Imo, if it were me, I'd talk to her mom and offer any help (time wise or monetarily if you're in the position to do so) with the shower.

My mom hosted and paid for everything. My BP did gifts and came up with games and the lingere line.
I dont htink her mom expects you to pay for it.
ETA: I would causally say something "oh its so nice your mom is throwing your shower" and see what happens.

I am going to suggest this to my friend. She already clearly stated that she wants no bachelorette party (no clubbing, no strip shows, etc). The brunch/spa thing was supposed to be kind of in place of a bachelorette party.
I will still attend and help out with the family one at the mom's house.
I think my friend does not want to burden me and the bridal party. Most of the bridal party is struggling with bills. My friend would love the spa but said she is broke with the wedding costs. I told her I would pay for her.

Mine was hosted by my BMs but it was at MILs house - however SIL was also a BM so I guess it was technically at her house too. I don't think MIL contributed. However, my family doesn't live here and we don't really do bridal showers in my community back home so that's why it was done by my BMs here. It was at my MILs to save money.

And any bridal party I have been in the mother hosted!
A lot of the times (in my experience) the bridal party contributes the games and prizes and maybe the favors and decorations...

my mom did everything. in your case i would ask your friend if she would want a seperate party for her friends at the spa, since she is having a whole big thing with her family.

that sounds more like she was talking about the bachelorette party not the bridal shower.
Showers usually include family/friends

They didn't ask for anything from the bridal party I don't think

For MY bridal shower, my mom and grandma hosted and paid. My friends took care of my bachelorette party.
For a bridal party I was in, the shower was hosted and paid for by the mom and each of the girls in the bridal party. We split the cost evenly amongst the mom and the 3 girls in the bridal party.
