Our 4.5 y.o is still in a car seat. However, we will be moving her into the booster seat by the end of the summer.

Our 6 year old DC recently went to a booster (Britax Frontier) 5 point harness after their Britax Marathon was approaching 6 years (expiring)
Isn't the Britax Frontier also a car seat , not only a booster?

The only reason I switched my 4.5 year old to a high back booster is that he was too tall and too big for the 5 pt. harness. Even though his weight didn't exceed the Marathon, his shoulders are higher than the where the straps come out.

DD is 4.5 and still in a 5pt harness seat.
shes tall enough and at the age to switch...but only 36lbs so i wont switch her yet.
she hasnt outgrown the height of her current seat yet so i am waiting for her to reach the weight limit...which may take forever since she cant seem to put a pound on!

DD will be 6 at the end of oct and is still in a grace nautilus with a 5 point harness i don't think any of her friends are. She complains sometimes but I dint care. I feel it's safer. She is getting too though so I think by the time she is 6 she will be in a high back booster.
If she goes for a shortnride with a friend or realive I use the backless. But that's rare.

my son is 3 3/4 (will be 4 in Aug) and a lot of his friends from school turned 4 this spring and I noticed a lot of them had the booster seat (no back) but my son is in his 5 point car seat for as long as I can. When I switch I will switch to a booster with a back. I am not taking any chances. My son already complains and asks why he has to sit in this seat, but it is for his own good and will save his life!

DD 4.5 is tall 45lbs and is still in her Nautilus and will be until she can't anymore. I did notice the same thing...most 4-5 year olds are in booster seats. Honestly I don't care what someone else does for ME DD will be in the Nautilus 5 point until she can't anymore.The booster seats are more of a PITA IMO because you have to make sure they are buckled in even when your DC is not in the car...if not they become a flying object. I like the 5 point harness and the extra protection it adds.
The only time DD ever rides in a high back booster is in my Mom or Sisters car and that is very rare

DS is 5 (turned 5 in May) and he JUST transitioned to a bosster seat this morning.
We're expecting #2 and I wanted to get one before baby comes in oct. We bought it over the weekend b/c it was on sale.
My niece turned 5 in Jan, and is still in a car seat - b/c she isn't 40 lbs yet.

DS was in his 5 point harness seat until his 6th b-day. DD turned 6 last month, and she'll be in her car seat for a while still (she's much tinier than her brother was).
fine.
My DD's Nautilus got converted on her 6th Bday as well. She was 52lbs and ready. I plan to keep my DS in a 5 point to around the same age maybe even longer because he's smaller.

DS is 5.5 and he still in a carseat. It becomes a booster seat but he is absolutely fine in his carseat. If he goes in someone else's car, we give them a spare booster seat that we have to use.

If it's a 5 pt harness, they can begin to use it when they reach age 2 and begin to forward face unless they don't meet the minimums that the manufacturer requires for the seat.
