It can fill up their bellies with empty calories. They need nutrition.

Water has no calories Chat Icon

It's because it can cause a chemical imbalance with their sodium and they can die (to put it bluntly).

An ounce here and there isn't usually an issue.

Kelly is right, water will trick a baby's stomach into thinking that it is full.

But, your DS is 8 months old, and I would probably give him a little water ina sippy cup as practice, or on very hot days. I think that most peds are stringent about this when DCs are very youngChat Icon

I agree, at 6 months the ped told us to start a little water in a sippy cup.

Re: why do some PED say no water

At 6 months we were told to start giving her water in a sippy cup.

Even before that since DD has constipations issues the ped told us to give her 2 oz of water between bottles.

I was also told it can have the negative effect on them at that age.. instead of hydrating, it actual dehydrates them. By flushing out their system with diarrhea.
