Bottom line is if you don't like the taxes here- move! If you are so envious of teacher benefits, then become a teacher.
so people who live here and are disgusted with the high property taxes can't complain or vent about it? 
1. that's what this site is about
and
2. there's nothing wrong with trying to figure out why

I don't remember who posted it, but someone said that "there wiil always be teachers wiling to work on LI" That may be true now but if you change the way things are now it will become just like NYC and other states which is always desperately trying to find qualified teachers and not finding them. If you saw some of the people I work with in NYC, its frightening. The same holds true for the administration.
Bottom line is if you don't like the taxes here- move! If you are so envious of teacher benefits, then become a teacher.
its 100% unacceptable to take bits & pieces of what people say out of context to make accusations from a highly defensive point of view.
I'm the one that said there will always teachers willing to work on LI & I stand by that because I'm NOT in favor of cutting teacher salaries. I am however in favor of looking at some of the benefit packages to see if they are antiquated. I'm also TOTALLY in favor at looking at the potential savings & long term benefits of consolidation.
Secondarily, I do not need to move if I don't like my taxes. This is America & we are allowed to question, discuss, protest & vote to change any government policies we don't like.
All teachers are subject to the voice of the people, unless you are teaching in private school and even then the people paying the tuition(or in our case SCHOOL TAX) have the final say.
All the teachers need to unbunch their panties & allow the rest of us to share our thoughts which by the way ARE VALID & worthy of discussion whether you like it or not.
Try explaining to us without insisting we are wrong WHY you disagree & maybe this can go in a positive direction rather than another pi$$ing match.

Has anyone ever wondered why the taxes in the Hamptons are so low? Why is a 3 million dollar house out there have the same taxes as my moms SMALL 3 bedroom ranch in Selden? Because not many children go to the schools there in the Hamptons, and if the taxes did go up, they have the $ and the power to stop it....
Now thats annoying!
And, I am also a teacher...
