I feel the same way about prostitution. Why spend money busting people? It's a moral issue to me, not a legal one.

And same rules apply about drinking and driving, smoking pot and driving, and screwing a prostitute while driving. BAD!

I agree 100%

Actually, so do I.

Legally.

Should you drive after using them? No.

Drinking alcohol is legal. Drinking and then driving is not.

Same thing would be applicable to pot.

Well said.

The the abopve poster I hope you are ok.

It makes good sense.

Fiscally, socially...all around.

Plus, again, its SAFER than liquor! You CANT die from a pot overdose...

...you CANT overdose on Pot. Its impossable.

Re: Why Pot should be legal

as for the argument about kids, i feel like it would be less "cool" if it was legalized..i think kids aren't really deterred by it being illegal now..

and you can not od on pot..its not possible

it would prob make it even safer too, bc there would be less laced with more dangerous drugs

Re: Why Pot should be legal

I've never smoked pot, I was never into drugs, it wasn't my thing.

I think if there were regulations, etc. on the purchase of it legally, it would most likely be a good idea.

If we made a legalization model of prositution the way it's done in some European countries - where there has to be medical check ups, registration, etc. I would't be oppposed to it being legal either.

Re: Why Pot should be legal

There are already legal places where people can get pot out in California and I think Colorado also. You don't see crime skyrocketing in those places because more people are smoking. At these places, all you need is an Rx from a doctor there, and that Rx can be for practically anything. You can't sleep right? Here you go, an RX for you.

Out of all the drugs out there, alcohol has been the one that I see causing the most damage to people. After alcohol, I would say RX drugs like pain killers.

IMO pot should be legalized, made available to those 21 and over only, and treated like alcohol as to when and where it can be smoked. Smoking and driving should be a DWI of course For instance, you can't have an open container in the car now even if its a passenger, the same would go for pot. You also cant just walk around the streets smoking just like you cant do that drinking either. It would have to be something like designated places like they have in CA and amsterdam or in the privacy of your own home.

I personally don't see pot as a gateway drug either. What I can see is that because pot is illegal the same as coke or herion, the kids try pot, see that no harm is done and they have the impression that the warnings against harder drugs are all hype just as they are for pot.

As an anecdotal observation, all the accidental overdose deaths I have seen at work have been related to RX pills, cocaine, and then herion.

To me, pot is up there with drinking and prescription drugs. It should be legalized and used responsibly. Prolonged alcohol and prescription drug use is way more damaging to your system than pot use, if you want to talk about abuse effects.

Fourth! What does the government care if people want to pay for sex?
If both things were taxed, it would be such a source of revenue!

To your point, I was friends with an Italian exchange student when I was in high school and he said it was more fun to drink here than it was at home because here it was exciting. It was the excitement of trying not to get caught, whereas in Italy, it was totally legal so it wasn't a big deal to do it.

Re: Why Pot should be legal

I also feel like legalizing makes it safer for kids.

Yes, it's cool because it's "bad" but also drug dealers have no qualms selling to kids, and this exposes kids (and adults) to criminals, unsafe circumstances and to other, more dangerous drugs. They dealers are always going to push the harder, more expensive, addictive drugs. Plus, you don't know what's in something you buy off the street, If the gov't regulates it, you know it's going to be safer and not laced.

ALSO, of course, it's doubly profitable for the government since they don't have to spend money busting people, and they can gain tax revenue.

It also reduces the power of criminal gangs, etc and protects our borders.

It's a win-win-win-win-win.

I've never smoked pot in my life, but I am 100% in favor of legalization, with strict laws of course about where/;when you can smoke (not in public, no DUI, etc)

She could've easily driven the wrong way on the Taconic with nothing more than booze in her system and that's LEGAL. Nobody is debating the fact that it would need to be heavily regulated, just as alcohol and prescription drugs are.

Exactly!! The fact that this happened when pot was illegal shows that keeping it illegal is not preventing people from using it.
