Why purchase a "fake" bag....
I'm not trying to be rude or anything, so I apologize early in this post if this offends anyone, I'm just trying to understand...
Why do people buy fake bags? There are plenty of gorgeous non-designer bags out there. If you don't want or can't buy a "real" designer bag, why not buy one of those other gorgeous bags?
I really dont mean to sound obnoxious, I just can't wrap my head around it....
I should add that I don't mean bags of the same style of a designer bag. I mean like a fake louis vuitton, with the monogram, or a fake coach bag.. something that states it is a designer when in fact it isn't.
I think I just confused myself...

I think many people want to buy the real thing but cannot afford it. To many people it may be the "name" or the "brand" that means something (status) than anything else...
Me - I would never buy a fake bag...but you cannot control what you receive as a gift!

I buy a bag because I like the way it looks....if it "looks" like a designer bag...I would have not idea...
but then again I get my best bags from Fashion Bug and get more compliments on it then any of the bags that are designer name....

I'm cranky and obnoxious today... so nothing is going to make me understand.. lol

I laughed when I saw this post because I wonder the same thing so often. I will see women out with such an obviously fake bag and it looks so stupid that I wonder why buy it if you can't afford it. I buy bags that I like - not bags with labels.
Don't get me wrong, I love nice things. I just buy things that are within my means.

Some people don't have the luxury of saving money to buy a designer purse...I save for things that are more important (to me) The fakes I get look just as good for 80% less money.
I get bored with them after a few weeks and toss them to the side anyway, so why waste my money on an original?
Just to add after reading the post above: I never ever ever tell people my bag is real. And I don't get fake purses often, it's only if I happen to like the design.

I think some people want a real one but just can't afford it or might just not want to pay for one (some bags are just ridiculously expensive)... everytime you walk down the street you bump into someone with an LV on their arm or a Chanel clutch.... for some people it may be hard to be left out of that.

But if it's fake, aren't you still "left out"?
When I was in 4th grade everyone was getting braces and/or retainers. I used to bend open a paper clip and put it in my mouth so I wouldn't feel "left out". I still didn't have the real thing, and it didn't make me feel more "in".
I ended up getting real braces in 7th grade but that's neither here nor there..lol
My point is, if you are an adult and feel "left out" because you don't have a real designer bag I think you have other things to worry about....
Not "you" persay.. but you know what I mean...
I think it's more stylish/fashion forward to buy an adorable clutch from Aldo than walk around with a fake Chanel clutch with two W's on the clasp instead of C's....
Edited to add that's just my opinion.. and others are welcome to theirs..

this is something that came up recently - my boss (who can afford the real deal)has both real & fake bags of all different designers. she said she likes the fakes b/c it allows her to buy a lot.

but why wouldn't she just get nice bags that are less expensive...Cole Haan, Coach, Kooba, HH, etc.?
The people at my job who can afford the luxury brand stuff would NEVER buy a fake. I'm certainly not one of them that can afford it, but I don't buy fakes, either. It looks silly, IMO. Go to Marshall's and get a nice bag for $20 instead of Canal Street and you will be much better off!

The bottom line is that it's a fake.
Somebody is stealing the design of an original bag so people who can't afford it think they can just "cheat" the system and look like they have the real thing.
Just like free download of music or copying someone idea.
How would people feel if it was THEIR business? Someone just copy something you created at a cheaper price.
If you can't afford it, get a bag you can. You are not fooling anyone!!!!

Honestly, I can't tell the difference between a fake and the actual one
I think selling a bag for more than $50 is highway robbery.
I own one Coach which I love and bought on sale at the outlet for $85...
While I was drunk Probably the one reason I own it.
DH should have known better than allowing me to go to the outlets after hitting 4 wineries.

some people like having fakes because to them it's like beating the system and there is some thrill in that.
I just wish that there were more moderately priced handbags not meant to look like someone else's design. Even in department stores, and even with bags that do not knock off logos, so many bags look like attempts to knockoff some famous bag. I want to like my bag for what it is, not because it looks like a such and such.

I had a fake burberry a couple of years ago. There really wasn't as much thought put into it as everyone here is over-analyzing. We were at the straw market on one of the islands, i loved the way the bag looked, so i bought it. I loved the shape, style and pattern- i couldn't care less that it was a fake, i would actually keep the label part turned in b/c i wasn't trying to pass it off as real anyway. I thought that was the point of buying something- because you like the way it looks? i would NEVER pay some of the prices that these bags are asking for- i'm really not impressed by them anyway- but if i see a bag i like, i'll get it, regardless of whether or not it's up to other people's standards. I understand what you're saying about the fact that it's obvious (to those who know bags well) that it's fake, but i think it's a bit presumptious to assume that that the person carrying it cares about that.
