Wierd facebook situation- WWYD
Someone I met through work just asked to be my friend.
I'm a lawyer. This person, X, worked with my client. X sued Y and Y sued my client- but in a separate case. X and my client were never in a case together- but they were all on the same side.
Last week I was in Court and saw X. X was going to trial against Y. X had a new lawyer who didn't know much about the case- so i gave him a little background as to the facts that resulted in my litigation and wished them luck.
Today X asks to be my facebook friend
I DO NOT want to be friends wiht this person. I think he is nice and wish him well- but I just don't think its appropriate. Should I send him a message, or just ignore it?

I would friend & block from everything. That's what I started to do wtih work people or people I don't know that well.
The problem I have is that I don't remember to unblock someone once I do know them
There is nothing wrong with sending him a message that FB is only for personal use (make sure your friend list is blocked from view)

Do not friend even if you do block everything. Just ignore it and explain that you only keep close personal friends and family as FB friends (if they even ask).
There is another level of complexity involved b/c we are lawyers... I would never befriend a colleague, co-counsel, opposing counsel, etc. on FB.

I would ignore it and then block the person. For me, FB is for my actual FRIENDS, not random people I barely know.

Because there is a chance they will be in your work life somehow, I would send a message with a polite reason you're declining. Conflict of interest, because you keep your page about your personal life only, etc.
Think about how awkward it would be if you happened to see X again and they said "Hey, how come you didn't accept my FB request?"

I would probably just ignore it.
People forget boundaries when it comes to FB.
I have to watch what I say on my page because someone who now oversees our entire program that I work for on a statewide level is on mine.
She previously just worked at another agency in a role equivalent to the one I have now.
I feel strange about deleting her though at this point since we were always friendly.

I think it is inappropriate as well. I would just leave it.
