WWYD sleeping situation
So miki will be 2.5 when baby #2 comes. Here is my quandry. We plan to leave miki in the room she is in now and put the new baby in the spare room. Here are my options
1. Leave miki's room as is and transition her to the toddler bed (crib turns into a toddler bed) and get a new crib for baby #2
2. Leave miki's room as is but move her crib into the baby's room and get her a twin or a full size bed with rails (we already have a full size bed in the spare room which we could move into Miki's room) - is a full size bed too big for a 25 month old?
Basically, if we do number 2, or no matter which one we do, we will not have any room for guests so when people come to visit, they will need to stay at hotels....I guess that is okay though, it is what it is

Re: WWYD sleeping situation
Could you transition her to the toddler bed now, and then when the baby arrives put her in the full size bed? - Or is that too much change in a short period of time?
Many of my friends have put their DCs in full size beds straight from the crib (w/ rails of course) and they're all done well

Re: WWYD sleeping situation
Personally, I would choose option 2....we did something similar.
Moved DD to a full sized bed at just about 3...she transitioned beautifully. We just put it against a wall, with a rail on the open side and she was fine.
Her crib didn't convert, so we had to do a bed. I hated having a twin growing up, so I wanted her to have a full...

I am not sure if that is too much change. I plan to convert her to a bed about 3-4 months before baby #2 comes

Re: WWYD sleeping situation
Hmmm...
I'll tell you my plan if/when I ever get pregnant!
If the next is a boy they will take Jack's entire crib set and Jack will get Pottery Barn like bunk beds.
If the next is a girl Jack will keep his set and the girl will get a very girly set.
Either way - I would like to keep Jack in a crib as long as possible - I could only imagine the damage he would do if he was out.
His crib turns into a full size bed though - so I don't think it's too big for Miki if you have to do that!

Re: WWYD sleeping situation
We skipped the toddler bed, and moved Ella into a new room with a full bed (leaving the nursery intact for Erik). She was 23 months when Erik was born - she moved into her new room a few weeks before, and did great! She has a platform bed with no boxspring, and its on the lowest setting so she can get in and out. No rails.
She LOVES having a "big girl bed" and never slept in her crib again.
(we had a toddler bed option but didn't see the need to transition twice. I went back and forth on the twin/full bed decision, and I'm glad we went with the full).

Re: WWYD sleeping situation
Is her room more little girlish or babyish? If its more of a nursery then I say move miki into another room and set design that room to the stage shes in, and keep the old room as new babys nursery. If you have a boy and her room is already girlish, then keep her in that room and make new room for the new baby boy..

I would do the same. All my nieces went straight to a twin bed and transitioned fine.

her room is not babyish persay....I thought leaving her in her room would help with the transition. The guest room is considerably smaller than her room
ahh, decisions, decisions

in our case, I think having Ella's old room still there helped. She would still run in there once in awhile, so she knew it was there if she needed it (she called them 'my room' and 'my new beautiful big girl room ). But she never asked to sleep in there again. Erik didn't go in his room for a few months and by the time he did, she was calling it his room.
I think having a whole newly decorated room made it exciting vs. just a scary change.

I would keep her in her room. She's going to have to deal with lots of changes over the next year or so - I think you should keep her where she is most comfortable

Re: WWYD sleeping situation
WHEN we transition DD to a bed, it will be a full-size bed. Her crib doesn't convert to a bed, and the mattress that WAS in her room (when it was a guest room) is almost brand-new, and it's a Full, so that's what she'll get.
Does all the furniture "coordinate" with the crib? Is it a set that you'd like to keep together? If so, I'd give that all to the new baby in the "new" room, keep Mikayla in her room and get her new furniture. Have her "help" you set up the new baby's room, her new furniture, etc...hopefully that would help with her transition.
For us, I plan on keeping DD in her crib as long as humanly possible and since there's no baby in our future for a little while, she should be out of the crib by the time the 2nd baby comes.
I have the same issue with having no guest bedroom anymore after baby #2 comes. It stinks, since all of my family is from OOT, but it's going to have to be that way. They'll have to sleep in the living room or a hotel.

Yes, the crib does match the other furniture, that is whY I was unsure as to what to do. I guess we can move all of the furniture into the other room and just set miki up with new stuff........I think this makes more sense. I wonder if all the furniture will fit in the baby's room

agree, going from being only child, to having a little baby around will be alot already for her, then to take away her safehaven may just be over the top for her. When she gets older and then starts to realize the size of her room, then I say switch her.

her room is bigger than the spare room so she will not be complaining about the size. we plan to move into a bigger house in 2-3 years anyway

Re: WWYD sleeping situation
We co-sleep so our situation is a little different. We attached DS's crib to our queen size bed to give us a little more room and a safe place for him to sleep. However, that left no bed in his room and I wanted to start the transition into his own room. (And his crib does not convert to a toddler bed. I've always planned to get him a full size captains bed that matches his dresser.)
We ended up taking the queen mattress and box-spring from our guest room and put them in his room (without a frame). We put it in the corner of the room and then put an extra long bedrail along the long side.
He starts out there in the beginning of the night and also sleeps there for naps, and he's really good about it.
If you decide to go the toddler bed route, it's probably more cost effective to give the new baby the crib and to purchase a bed that is solely a toddler bed. I think they are cheaper and you can also get her one with a cute theme that you can get her excited about.
