Will houses sell in this market?
Is the market in a place right now that if you put a house on the market it would sit for a while? Or can you sell fairly fast? Is the market even doing any better? Anyone have any experience selling?
We are in the midst of construction and doing what's best in terms of moving out and not dropping money we won't see again. I'm just concerned we'll get stuck again and have to put off having any more children. We want to move in at most 2 years.

Re: Will houses sell in this market?
Friends of ours listed their house a few weeks ago, it hit mls on monday they were in full contract by friday. Their house was on a double yellow, good schools, reasonable price ( they did take a minimal loss) great town. So i guess its possible to sell quick.

Re: Will houses sell in this market?
Depends on many things...location, price point, etc.
My house sold is under a month.

Re: Will houses sell in this market?
The market it probably going to hold steady for awhile. That's what most economists are projecting.
Houses ARE selling, especially when they are priced well for their condition and based on recent comps. If sellers price their house unrealistically, according to what prices were at the peak of the market, then the houses tend to sit. There is enough inventory out there right now that they don't need to look at -- let alone buy -- overpriced houses.
However, there are a LOT of buyers out there looking to buy now, while interest rates remain low and prices are reasonable. So in my area of focus -- central to eastern Nassau -- houses are selling. One of my recent listings was priced well and we had an accepted offer after only 2 days on the market, and it went to contract 2 weeks later.
Also, as discussed on a recent thread, even if you sell for a little less than you may have in a different market, you can also buy a lot more when you upgrade to a bigger house, so you actually come out ahead!

Re: Will houses sell in this market?
The right houses in the right locations, at the right prices are selling.
I saw a house that was a disaster (without even going inside the house). corner of a busy street, no backyard, and neighbor's house butted against the fence. House is not "that" cheap but cheaper in the area. Nobody is rushing to buy it. I suspect this one won't sell fast.

ITA! We sold out house in Centereach in July after 1 weekend on the market. We got almost asking price, more than we thought we would. We are in contract to sell my late mothers house in Kings Park. It was on the market for about 2 months, but I think that was even quick considering we put it up right around the holidays which is the slow season. We settled about 4% less than asking which isn't bad IMO in this market.

We sold our townhouse in a month. It was in great condition though with very new, high end kitchen and baths. It was also priced well. I think if things are priced correctly they will sell, but I'm no expert. I think there's a good chance you're going to lose some money, but you'll also be getting a "better" deal on what you're buying.

Re: Will houses sell in this market?
Nice houses, priced correctly.. sell. We bid on our house the 2nd day it was on the market, and were in contract shortly after that. (this was in the late summer last year)
I found that the houses that were sitting quite a while were over-priced.

Re: Will houses sell in this market?
3 and 4 bedroom houses will always sell better than 2 bedroom houses.
Houses that are priced accordingly will sell quickly.
Houses that show well (not cluttered, landscaped properly, etc.) will sell quickly too.

I disagree with that
I sold a 2 bedroom house in 3 weeks
I have more calls on that house then any of my other listings combined
it was priced right and updated

Re: Will houses sell in this market?
depends on location and price. My parents neighbors' house in Queens (Woodhaven) sold in a YEAR. She priced it probably 10K higher than other area homes but the house needed a lot of work..
I just checked out MLSI.com and see several condos in Lindenwood/Howard Beach that are still listed and where on that site 8 months ago...the prices aren't that high either, so I am guessing its all about supply/demand in that immediate area..
