Will you allow your children to be covid tested?
We got a survey. Schools in yellow zones have to test 20% sample of the school population every 2 weeks. It is voluntary but if we do not agree and the zone moves to orange or red our kids will have to be remote only. I am so on the fence about this. We have the option to be present as well when the test is administered. I know this is for the greater good but for some reason I am very uncomfortable with this. We do not live in the zip code that is yellow, but the school is...

I will allow my son to be tested. Forget about the greater good, he needs to be IN school for his own well being and education.

Mine is old enough to decide so I would allow them to. Oldest gets tested all the time for school and personal reasons and has been negative every time.

I would have no problem with my kids getting tested. DW and I wouldn't have to be there. DC are 14 and 17, so that makes a big difference.

Yes. We live very close to Queens, so I worry we will become an orange zone very soon. The only way for my kids to remain in school once that happens id for them to be tested. So I would 100% allow it, I can't do another three months of remote like we did in the spring. My oldest, who is in 4th grade, took remote learning very hard.

Yes. The damage this spring did to my daughter education wise and mentally still gives me anxiety. That cannot happen again. Remote school is garbage

I don’t think there should be an option. If your child is randomly selected and you refuse the test, the kid should be out of school.

Re: Will you allow your children to be covid tested?
We homeschool but if my kids were in school, I wouldn’t sign them up for testing. Schools are not hot spots whatsoever so I don’t see why it’s so important to subject kids to continuous random tests. Plus they already wear masks all day long, and have plexiglas around their desks. The whole thing about u either volunteer or we’ll shut down schools seem so wrong to me. Why call it “volunteering” then? I’d say go with ur gut feeling, if it’s telling u don’t go for it, then don’t do it. If other people want their kids to do it, then let them and hopefully ur little one(s) won’t need to do it. But that’s just my opinion.

So parents that are willing to allow their kids to get tested to keep schools open should shoulder the burden for those not willing to do their fair share. Seems unfair to me.

It depends on who is doing the test. If they are hastily training school staff to do it, no freaking way. I hope there is an option to have them tested where I choose. Then I’d have no problem doing it.

No. Those parents that are willing to allow their kids get tested, are just like u said...willing. If parents don’t feel right to subject their kids to random testings, they shouldn’t have to. What’s not fair is that the government keeps holding schools over parents’ heads if they don’t agree with something they’re requiring. Enough is enough. First it was remote learning, then it was hybrid, then wearing masks only while walking around and not while sitting down in their classrooms, then it was wearing masks literally all day (except when they’re eating), now it’s “volunteering” to get continuously testing. What’s next? Getting the covid vaccine or they can’t go to school?? Denying school to kids for not wanting to test is actually unfair when schools are not hot spots. Plus there are already guidelines to follow if someone tests positive.

I think it’s very likely that the vaccine will be required, much like the mmr. Right now my concern is keeping school open, I don’t agree with the rules for testing. But if my child getting a test keeps the schools open, then testing it is. It’s a nasal swab, what’s the big deal?

Will you allow your children to be covid tested?
I will not be the first person lining up to get them tested as both are special needs and testing will be a nightmare for them, but they need to be in school. If it came down to the school not able to meet the 20% then I would allow them to be tested because I don't want them to close. I do hope that families that can have their children test easily will step up but I don't have high hopes in that happening.

I totally agree with you. Parents who have kids that can be tested should be willing to test for the greater good. To keep schools open for kids that may need it more than their own children. Schools closing has such a huge impact for kids that get services. So yea, my kid will get a nasal swab wether they like it or not, if it means helping to keep school open for everyones good.

We are in a yellow too.
I am ok with having my kids tested for school to stay open but DH is not. Currently my kids only go 2x a week though and DS 1 was home for most of November when his school closed. I deal with 90% of their online education while working full time at home so I feel I have more of a say than DH.
I don’t think we will have to worry though because there were 16 positives reported yesterday and today in our district as the testing of the 20% started and the number of kids and staff that have to quarantine is too large to keep schools open. And I’m sure is also propelling is towards an orange zone.

At our school we were told it was the school nurse or a hired outside medical professional administering.
You also have the option to test on your own, but once this becomes commonplace I assume it’ll be a nightmare to get an outside test.

Will you allow your children to be covid tested?
I would. If my kid were in pre-k to maybe 3-4th I would request I be present or discuss if there is a voucher for a parent to get a free test for their kid and give them the results. Young kids no, they are likely scared as it is but if they let me be there I would be fine with it. If my kid were in middle- high school I would just ask them if they are ok with it and let them do it and explain the importance

agree with u 100% I wouldn’t allow someone to test my kid without me there. It makes me feel very uncomfortable. I’m home at the moment so if it means I’d have to go remote then so be it. If they allow me to go on my own to get tested or for me to be present at the school during the test then I would consider it.

I agree. It’s disgusting what the government is doing to these kids and parents who have to work. And oddly, they keep getting away with it. It’s always schools and restaurants because the government can’t control anything else.
Exactly what you said, When is enough is enough and we stop letting them hold schools over our heads. Education is important and it was already severely in trouble in the US before the pandemic, how much more damage do they want to do to this system. I guess in the end it will be ok because the most detriment will happen to the communities they don’t really give a sh!t about anyway. The principal and unfairness of this forced testing is my major issue and there is no real science or logic to back it up. Just fear based, knee jerk reactions to things. Per usual.
Eta: as much as I hate that they are forcing parents to do this, if it was between school and no school, my son would have to get tested. But I strongly agree that this shouldn’t be happening. Sorry!

Re: Will you allow your children to be covid tested?
My kids are in DOE (we are in Queens). I signed up for the consent when they started school bc I thought it was mandatory for in person schooling (that’s what they kept saying on the news that the UFT agreed on). Anyway, my kids have been tested once in school. According to them it was no big deal, a qtip right at the tip of their nose for 2 seconds and done. It was done by someone from the lab, but the guidance counselor was with them. She picked them up from class and brought them. When I asked who did the test? My son said a trained medical professional. Lol.
We all had to get tested a few weeks ago bc one of my children was exposed to someone to had the virus (a therapist at school). We went to pm pediatrics. My kids thought it was gonna be like school. Nope, qtip all the way up. They were not happy and lots of screaming, but we survived. I really hope we don’t have to do this again.
Just wanted to share what my kids testing looked like in our public school.

Yes to all of this. I don't care so much about a simple test but it's the idea behind the government holding us hostage that gets me. It's a helpless feeling when you have absolutely no recourse. What will be next? That's what's disturbing. The schools are not where it's spreading. They have proven and stated that time and time and time again. Yet, they come up with this nonsense and we all have to comply, "voluntarily " of course, under threat of them shutting down schools for no reason at all. No care at all about how damaging that is to kids. Churches are protected under the Constitution and hence why they won the lawsuit against Cuomo. Schools and restaurants, like you said, are not. So yes, easy targets for government overreach.
