Re: Will your child be using different names for both sets of Grandparents
My parents will be grandma and grandpa and DH's parents will be Mima and Pop Pop. They are already Mima and Pop Pop to their other 5 grandkids so we figure we'll just go with that for them. Even our dog knows them as Mima and Pop Pop.

Re: Will your child be using different names for both sets of Grandparents
this is actually an issue I'm having as well.....
as it goes in my family....my parents are Nana (nanny) & PaPa...so DH & I said his parents would be grandma & grandpa. Well, when I got them bibs to announce we were pg....my MIL made a face and was like "I like Nana...." to which DH replied, "well Devons Mom is Nana, as it's what eddie (my nephew) calls them" ....she proceeded to then talk about some book and how she'll have to pick another name,( not nicely). It may not be important to others but it is to me. (plus it put a sour spin on it since this conversation was taking place after we just announced that we were giving them their first grandchild!)
I'm hoping they'd like to be called something different, I think it would hurt my Mom to be honest if there was another Nana. I know it sounds ridiculous but it's important to me.

yes because of our different cultures. DC will call my parents something different than what they'll call DH's parents.

Re: Will your child be using different names for both sets of Grandparents
Do I think it's important - no, but they will have different names anyway. My parents are Nana & Poppy & my IL's are Grandma & Grandpa.
Is there a specific reason - not really. It just worked out that way.
My Brother's kids had Nana & Poppy & Mom Mom & Bobby Boy as their Grandparents...LOL

Re: Will your child be using different names for both sets of Grandparents
When we do have a child/children my father willbe Jaja and my step-mother Boucha...polish for grandma and grandpa. It's very importatnt to my dad. My mom will be Grandma and their great grandparents will be: Grandpa Eager and Grandma Eager and Grandpa George and Grandma Ginny. This is how I refer to them as does their other grandchildren. HTH!

When I was little I called my grandparents, Babcia and Dziadzia (grandma and grandpa in Polish) on both sides. My family is 100% Polish and it meant something to them to be called this.
If any of our 's grandparents had a preference I would try to honor it, as long as it was appropriate and still some form of grandma or grandpa.
I would let your FIL use Grandpa if he wants it, your baby will be able to figure out who goes with who as they get a little older.
im crashing - but my great grandparents were babcia and dziadzia too
we call my grandparents on my mom's side that too!!!

Re: Will your child be using different names for both sets of Grandparents
As a child I had two grandmas and two grandpas. I called them grandma and grandpa. the only time I used thier first name was when I was talking about them. I was never confused. My DC will probably end up calling each set of parents whatever they choose or our parents teach them to say.
i dont think that each set of parents has to have different names.

Re: Will your child be using different names for both sets of Grandparents
dh hates anything other than grandma and grandpa-
so my parents will be grandma & grandpa with their first name
and dh's parents will be it without their first name..

Calling them Grandma ___ and Grandma ___ won't work for us because as luck would have it both our Mothers have the same first name.
Grandy and Grandma are cute mb I'll suggest that.
I thought it was the Grandpas that were the issue. If your mother is Nanny already with your nephews then why wouldn't she be Nanny with your DC?
