Work Moms - Is anyone NOT excited about school starting

I have to say my son is a little jerk. He has a tendency to act up in school, will "forget" his books or bringing home important work or notices. I am dreading school and coming home at 7pm to deal with the nonsense. Im lucky that my DH has early hours but school isn't his forte and by the time I come home my son is already exhausted and cant focus. So doing his hwk at that time is torture. Like I rather get a root canal or colonoscopy then do hwk with him. And its not like I sit down while he does it - its checking, erasing and making him do it again thats a struggle.

Last year he wouldn't even bring home or bring back the f#cking aftercare notices/payments. We kept getting calls and delinquent notices.

It's so nice in the summer to come home and not have to deal with this sh!t every day. Now he is going to 5th grade and I know its going to be so much harder. I guess he beat me into submission, because im not even excited for him to start.

Re: Work Moms - Is anyone NOT excited about school starting

Yes and no.
While I feel like she is going a bit stir crazy and she NEEDS to be back in school and to have some structure each day, I am NOT looking forward to the homework each night, the projects, the different events/activities, the routine.
I hate routines.
The waking her up early every day to be at the bus stop before 8 am.
Ughhhh

Plus I always hate the start of school because that means summer is almost over and I just literally cannot handle the months ahead, weather wise.
My Seasonal Affective Disorder starts in the fall.

So there's that too.

I am sure DH would disagree with ALL of this becuase he is home with her all summer while i am at work, and she has been dirving him nuts lately!

This may sound crazy, but I swear, even the way the sunlight is in late August, the angle of it maybe, it just gives me a bad feeling.
Every year around this time( the next week or so) I will be sitting in my yard on a bright, sunny day and will say- that is "fall" sunlight. This doesn't feel like summer.
I don't know what it is.
I am absolutely fuking nuts, I know, but I just get a bad vibe. Like the cold is coming. Like even the sunlight isn't right.
LOL

You aren't nuts because I told my husband the other day its already getting darker earlier. Or I guess we are both insane. And Sunday felt like fall to me.

Im going to Aruba next week and I am super excited. But I am still sad because then it will be labor day when I get back.. Im crazy

I'm not a working mom, but I'm not excited either. I don't like the rushing to get homework done after school to get to other activities, packing the lunches, getting up and nagging her to get ready on time, etc. !!

So not ready to add homework into the nighttime ritual. It's been nice to have a leisurely dinner and maybe go to the pool before bedtime.

so not looking forward to it. I love the ease of summer... Everything starts up all at once too.. School, homework, having to pack 2 lunches every night - then soccer practice, dance, religion... its stressful!

I would love for them to go back and not get any homework :) I like the routine of them being in school but homework just makes it all harder

It's been so enjoyable not watching the clock for dinner and bedtime. Getting to sleep in(I work in a school.) I like routine and will feel more productive but not looking forward to homework, endless after school activities..
oh and packing all those lunches!
Everything feels so rushed during the school year that there is no time to enjoy anything.

Work Moms - Is anyone NOT excited about school starting

I can’t wait for him to go back. Life is easier for me when he’s in school. He does his homework at aftercare so all I have to do is check it. Plus he gets on the bus at 810 and I can still get myself together in the am with no one else here!!!

Re: Work Moms - Is anyone NOT excited about school starting

I am not looking forward to the rushing around, trying to get out of work in time to pick up from daycare and after care(summer they are all in one location), getting them to sports, religion, Scouts, homework, dinner etc. Then just trying to keep up with school paperwork, buy this bring in that, it is alot to manage and DH doesn't really keep up with that stuff so I am the organizer. Summer is definitely more easy going.

Nope...I love Summer and the extra time we get with the kids. The rest of the year just makes me feel like we’re rushing through life.

I’m a teacher so back to school means back to work and LONG days and commuting. Plus I’m a single mom so all the after school stuff and homework and rides and dinners, making lunches etc is on me.

So no... I’m not looking forward to it one bit. I’m looking forward to seeing my work friends and meeting my new students but not for the rush rush rush and feeling like I have too many balls in the air

The summer routine is not much different then the school year for us. Instead of dropping her off at camp by my job from 7-5 she’ll be at school the same amount of hours (before and after care) She’ll do her hw at aftercare so all I have to do is check it over. The only time that we had some sort of down time was this last week when we were on vacation.

Re: Work Moms - Is anyone NOT excited about school starting

Me! Totally not excited.
I work year-round but DH is a teacher so summer is great for all of us.
He takes care of everything during the summer... watching the kids & pretty much everything around the house. The slow pace is great, I can sleep in a bit (till 7) in the morning, he drives me to & from work, I don't have to worry about getting things ready for the next day...
School year starts & we're overwhelmed. Once he's back at work, he leaves earlier than I do so the mornings are insane... getting myself & all 3 kids dressed & ready, pack breakfast & backpacks, I need to drop the 2 younger ones at daycare by 7:30, then the older one at school, and then rush to find a parking near my train to make sure I get to work by 9. It's hectic & stressful. Evenings we're both exhausted & we are crazy getting ready for the next day. Ugh. I'm dreading it!!!

I'm a SAHM... but i'm feeling both! LOL on one hand, i can't wait to send oldest DS off to school everyday- he thrives on the routine!! and its been a LONG LONG summer with our house torn apart for renovations and having the 2 boys home all the time!!
BUT at the same time, summer is great not having to worry about homework, packing lunches, getting him up and ready for school by 8:15 every morning...

Work Moms - Is anyone NOT excited about school starting

Im mixed about it. Im a SAHM and usually Im ready for them to get back to school but this time Im not ready. I lie Im ready to send one out of the three back to school. My 4 year old thrives on structure the other two can are fine without it. We have been staying in our PJs some days till 1 watching movies, giving them the same lunch of english muffin pizzas almost every day. They did go to camp for 2 one went 3 weeks, did art camp, we went away twice, did the spray park we did have a busy summer but it was nice, nothing too stressful. I have one going into first grade and my daughter will be starting kindergarten. Im feeling overwhelmed already with homework, activities, getting dinner and lunches made. I think this is the first year Im really not ready for them to go back to school.

Yes!!! It's so nice not to have to be rushing around after work to practice and activities and squeezing in dinner and homework and reading and blah blah blah.
