So my district has an aftercare till 5pm, and then with my little one I guess I would do daycare..but my dilemma is most jobs don't even get out till 5pm or later.. so what do I do after 5pm.. Are you sure that the after care ends at 5 pm? I would call and ask, because most people work till 5 and then have to commute home. We have Scope in our district and they are open till 6:30.

Our school after care ends at 5pm too-impossible for me to get out of work by that time. DS is going to a private after care that sends a bus to his school and is open till 7. Thank goodness for that option! When I was researching my options last year, this place was the only one in our area that was open late and arranged for transportation from school. I also found some Kiddie Academy and Tutor Time locations offer transportation too(not ours) and they are open till 6:30. Good Luck!

DS is in kindergarten and DD is in daycare. At the end of the school day, DS takes a bus to the daycare that DD goes to. They have an after care program that is open till 6:00.

Re: working mom school question

That is ridiculous. Parents who need the after-care should be going up to the school to find out if they can increase the hours.
Our school has after-care until 6pm.

Re: working mom school question

We have a 2yo in daycare, and a sitter thatpicks up my 10 and 7 yo afterschool, does homework, and picks up the baby as needed.

Good Luck!

I think Miss Sue's does not have an after school program for K and upwards. Call and check with them. My DS goes to Hickory Hill Day School also in Plainview. Hickory Hill

I was thinking of bringing it up with the PTA once DS started school but after seeing the quality of the day care, I haven't bothered. They have like 30+ kids in a small 20X30 room and it is utter chaos! Our school district has staggered timings for its three elementary schools and that supposedly makes it difficult for them to be open longer hrs. Chat Icon

Uggghhh....I know my old daycare used to have kids bussed to them after school. Maybe their is something available in your area like that.

I think the Mid Island Y JCC in Plainview has after school care. I know a few kids go from my DD's school in Plainview. They have a bus that takes them from the school to the Y.

Can you also consider a sitter at home? Your child could get off the bus and the sitter could pick them up. Another option is to see if there is a SAHM that is willing to pick up your DC and watch him/her at their house.

Re: working mom school question

Have you thought of looking into a local SAHM who is willing to do the after school hours for you? I am a SAHM and I babysit for a 3 year old. But if a friend needed me to have her school-aged kids after school to watch them until she came home, do homework with them, etc. I would be more then willing. You might want to look into something like that.

5:00 is ridiculous! Are you in plainview? If so, I will have the same problem . miss sue's has a very good reputation .

Re: working mom school question

I would try to find a SAHM with kids in the same school who offers after-school care in her home. If you call your childs schools main office, the secretaries and/or principal normally have a list of moms who babysit before and/or after school.
