Working moms and your daily routine

I've created a list of EVERYTHING that needs to be done at home and with DS. I never thought I had so many chores and responsibilities! Would you mind providing a list of what your work day and weekend is like? I'm trying to create a schedule and of course right now I'm all over the place. I'm just wondering where on earth I will fit some things in now with a baby. I also need to add working out in there some where. Chat Icon

Re: Working moms and your daily routine

What are you worried about adding in? I have no time for working out during the week, no matter how I crunch the time.

Our day is something like this:

6AM: I get up, showered, dressed. I am all ready by the time DS is up.
6:45: DS is up--changed, dressed
Both of us out the door
7:30 Drop DS off
7:55 arrive at work
4-leave work
4:25 pick up DS
5PM arrive home w/ DS--feed him his dinner
5:30 make dinner w/ DS in his stroller or exercauser in the kitchen
6:30 DH gets home; we eat dinner
7PM DH takes DS for 1/2 hour and I prepare his food and bottles for the next day and lay out his/my clothes for the next day
7:30 Bathe DS
8PM DS final bottle and bed

8:30-10:30 I do my second job (teaching online MBA classes)

I usually run the dishwasher or washing machine overnight, and then either empty or throw clothes in the dryer in the AM. All other cleaning gets left for the weekend.

Re: Working moms and your daily routine

I wake up around 5:30am. I wake up Yael, feed her a bottle, change her diaper and put her into clothes and let her play while I get ready for work. I put her back down for her first nap around 6:45am, and I'm out the door by 7am and at work by 7:30am.

I work in the city, in Philly, so if I need anything that I can find here, I do it during my lunch hour. Otherwise, I take an hour long walk, as my workout, during my lunch hour.

I leave work at 5pm, home with the girls by 5:30pm. DH usually gets home around 6pm.

While DH makes dinner, I tidy up the house for about 20 minutes - Alex is at the age where she helps me, which is great. Then, until dinner, I play with the girls, and feed Yael at some point.

We eat dinner around 7pm. Yael usually plays in her exersaucer while we eat.

We all clean up from dinner for a few minutes, and then I start getting Yael ready for bed. She's usually in bed between 7:30-8pm. While I'm doing that, DH is getting Alex ready for bed, and she's usually asleep by 8:30pm.

From 8:30-9pm I get everything ready for the next day - I clean Yael's bottles, pack her bag with some food and fresh clothes, and pack Alex's lunch. It's at this time too that DH takes out the garbage and usually does the dishes.

I work from home once a week usually - on that day I go the supermarket, and I do the girls' laundry.

We have cleaners that come once a week now, to clean the house so I don't have to worry about it.

Re: Working moms and your daily routine

6am - wake up and get ready for work
6:30 - wake up DS and get him dressed
6:45 - DH takes DS to daycare
6:55 - leave house for the train to work

work from 8-4

5:45pm - pick DS up from daycare
6 - start cooking while DH plays with DS
7 - give DS a bath
7:15 - give DS bottle
7:30-7:45 - DS goes to bed

8 - sit my @ss on the couch and relax and watch my shows
9:30 - shower
10 - bed

today is so fitting being groundhog day...my day just repeats.

weekends:

6am - DS wakes up
6:15 - bottle
6:30 - put him back in crib, he either falls back asleep or talks to himself
8 - wake up

then the rest of the day DS eats every 3 hours and naps every 3 hours. he plays throughout the day and if i need to run errands he either comes with me or stays home with DH. in the meantime DH does the house chores.

Re: Working moms and your daily routine

wake up at 5:55 AM
shower, dress, make-up, pack up my lunch and Mason's bottles (already made the night b4) and put in the car.

6:40 AM - get Mason up, change diaper, dress him, car seat...

6:55 AM - out the door and on the way to daycare

7:15 AM - at daycare and Mason gets his first bottle. talk with teachers, fill out sheets, kiss Mason... and off

7:30 AM - arrive at work

4:30 PM - pick up Mason

5:15 PM - get home and give Mason to DH. I change and get bottles and stuff in dishwasher

5:45 PM - feed Mason dinner

5:55 to 6:40 PM - play with Mason and DH. Sometimes I do a quick cleaning. Depends...

6:45 - 7PM - Mason's bath (only during the week)

7 - 7:15 PM - dress and Mason's last bottle... sleeping by 7:30 PM

7:30 PM - usually do some cleaning and 1/2 hour on the treadmill

8 PM to whenever - dinner with DH, sometimes shower after workout, TV, crash

DH makes the bottles each night. I usually do a big cleaning on Sundays and just do a once over during the week.

Re: Working moms and your daily routine

To be honest, a lot of things fell off my To Do list once DS was born.

Exercising is non-existent for me. Unless you count the squats and bouncing I do while holding my son.

I don't clean like a fanatic like I used to either. I clean all things that pertain to my son, but the rest of the house kind of gets put to the bottom of the list.

At night, my DH gets home before me and cooks dinner. That's a huge time-savings for me.

I do our laundry on the weekends, and wash an extra load of my DS's stuff maybe once during the week.

I like to give my son a bath every other night, sometimes ever 3 days if he's super tired one night.

Just remember, you're not superwoman. I think many of us fall into that category where we think we have to do it all, all the time, every day.

My day goes something like this:

6:10-6:50- Wake up, in the shower, put on make up, blow dry hair, brush teeth, get dressed

6:50-7:00- Wake up DD and get her ready for daycare

7:00-7:25- Finish getting things ready, Get out the door

7:25-7:35- Take DD to daycare

7:40- Get on the train to Brooklyn (sometimes if I am running behind, I take the 7:54 train)

9:00-5:00 Work and go to class

5:11- train home from Brooklyn

6:10- Arrive home (By this time, DH has picked up DD from daycare and fed her dinner)

6:10-7:30- Play with DD, get dinner ready- give DD a bath if it is bath time, etc.

7:30- Eat dinner with DH

8:00- I am also in school, so I do homework, etc

I try to be in bed no later than 10pm, and fall asleep no later than 10:30.

ETA: On the weekends, we don't have a set schedule- so normally, I do laundry, spend time with DD, do homework, have family time, etc.

Re: Working moms and your daily routine

thanks for your info. I was trying to figure out how early I should be getting up to start the day since I have to be on the road to work by 8:40. DS's feeding in the early am is starting to be on a schedule. It's the putting him down 2/3 times before he stays down is the problem. Trying to get myself ready for work will be a challenge. Something else DH and I will have to figure out. Also not that I do much during the day now but going back to work I will be losing time where I'm doing house stuff.

I could have written this post word for word... it is exactly what happened to me.

ETA- except DH doesn't cook.

Re: Working moms and your daily routine

my day

I wake up for the day around 7 am (ds still wakes up to feed twice during the night)

it goes something like this

make coffee
make formula to supplement bottles
make bottles
nurse the boy
make/eat oatmeal for myself
snuggle the boy
iron clothes
take out tonight protein from the freezer
straighten up mess
make bed/straighten up bedroom
put out Luce's clothes for the day-check diapers, wipes etc for my MIL
iron my clothes
shower/change
pack pumping bag

I try to be out the door between 9?9:30.

I get home between 6 & 7, depending on what time I left.

Once home I:

snuggle up the boy
get dinner started
set table
change my clothes
change Luce get him ready for bed
finish cooking dinner
eat (usually with him on the boppy on my lap)
retire to the LR where he suckles, falls in to deep sleep.
try to spend QT with dh
put Luce into crib
take care of mscellaneous cleaning...putting clothes away etc

I try to be in bed by 10-10:30

Luce wakes up to feed around 1:30 and again around 4:30. He is up for the day at 7:30.

I try to carve out a half an hour window every day to do SOME thing...sweep our bedroom, dust the living room...doesn't always happen though.

I feel like I don't get a moments rest! I even sleep with one ear open!
Chat Icon

we save food shopping and laundry for the weekends. dh usually has the laundry started by 8 am- he's good like that.

dusting/mopping etc either gets done by my MIL during the week or on the weekend in the kitchen/dining room in our apt. at our house it falls to me whenever I can get to it.

the living room at our apt is definitely due for a dusting. Chat Icon

I dust DS's crib and change his sheet once a week.

Re: Working moms and your daily routine

Our schedule is:

6:30am: I wake up and let the dog out. Then I jump in the shower if I didn't take one the night before
7:00am: DH wakes up and lets the dog in and feeds her if I haven't already.
7:15am: Let the dog back out. Get dressed and get stuff ready to go.
7:25am: Wake DD up and put her coat on and out the door.
8:15am: We arrive at my ILs house
9:00am: Arrive at work
6:00pm: Pick up DD from ILs.
7/7:30pm: Arrive home.
DH and I eat. Then we hang out for about an hour or so
9:30pm: DD goes to sleep

I don't really do any cleaning during the week. I will wash a few dishes or wipe down counters, but all of the cleaning gets done on the weekends

We also luck out because my ILs give Kaydyn all 3 of her meals and give her a bath and get her dressed. When she was on bottles/formula/babyfood we kept my MIL up to date with supplies and she made bottles and fed her as necessary during the day. If I needed to get DD dressed and fed before leaving I would prob have to wake up about a 1/2 hour earlier.

Re: Working moms and your daily routine

6:40AM - get up and get dressed as fast as possible, DH gets up 1st. DS is typically still sleeping but has bionic hearing and hears any noise we make.
7:10AM - grabbing my work bag, DS' bag with his stuff for the day, saying good morning to my smiling angel as DH puts him in his car seat
7:15AM-out the door on my way to my parents to drop DS off
7:30AM - DH and I leave my mom and dad's to head to the LIRR

9AM-5PM - stuck at work
5:00PM - begin my mad dash across town to Penn Station praying I'll catch the 5:24 train

6:30PM-7:25PM - get to my mom and dad's and finally see DS, play with him while we wait for DH (only have 1 car) and we eat dinner (my mom still cooks for us, she feels bad that I barely see DS, i could not have done this without her and my dad)
7:30-8:00 PM- get home and play with DS on his playmat, etc
8-8:15PM - get DS' pj's ready, diaper, bottle warmed up
8:15-8:30PM - carry out DS' bedtime routine, clean him up,bottle, book, and put him in his crib
8:30-9PM - take a breath
9:00PM- wash bottles, wash any dishes, prepare bottles for nighttime feeding/morning, pack up DS' bag for next day, check e-mail, do some of DS' laundry, try to straighten up but it never seems to look like I did, shower, get clothes ready for next day
10:30PM - in bed and knocked out and cross my fingers that tonight will be the night my little angel STTN

repeat, repeat, repeat...
