Re: Working moms of babies 6 months and younger who do NOT have cleaning help

I am a sahm...my house is a mess all day until he goes to sleep, that's when I clean. I can't imagine how hard it must be to work outside the home then come home and clean.
my baby only takes naps if I hold him. Once I put him down, he wakes up. So I either hold him for 2 hours while he sleeps or hold him for 2 hours while he whines because he is tired
Isn't your baby small? How much of a mess is he making? It's really not too hard until I have to deal with the dust in the winter. It is an everyday thing, cleaning and picking up and being organized. I wipe down the bathroom counter and toilet every morning between makeup and drying hair. That way I am sure that if anyone stops by, the bathroom will be clean.

I have to ask bc my house is spotless now and I am 5mts PG..
Can't you clean when the baby is napping?
thats great if you have a baby that naps... but yes, I do WHEN he's napping, or crying in his bouncy seat, or when he goes to sleep at night - but it seems that no matter what I do, it never looks clean enough - its also very tiny, so one thing out of place makes it look messy...

Can't you clean when the baby is napping? absolutely but I have to say for moms of newborns the first 4-8 weeks, its hard to keep a house clean and take care of baby. especially if you are BF- I remember those days of being sleep deprived. but for those that are older I cant see why the house would be a mess?

Really? I think it gets worse as the get older, especially when they start walking. When they are small, they are not making messes, they are usually just sleeping and eating.

Im not there yet, DD is not walking, but for me, with all of my pets for years I feel like I have a ton of kids who make a mess and knock things down all day long, especially when they play and I guess Im just used to cleaning everyday that when she starts walking and touching everything I would still keep a clean house. I figured that 3 months and up while they are sleeping or playing in lets say an exersaucer you can fold and clean then, but newborns just take too much of your time. thats what I meant about older, but I see what you mean.

Noooo Nooo, when he was a newborn I was in a fog - there were bottles and burpy cloths everywhere - not to mention stashes of diapers and whatever I may need in each room so I wouldnt have to leave the room to get anything... but I was on leave so I did have more time to clean when he did nap, or was just chilling out - I had no where like work to go...
I feel I have things under control now, so am able to clean as I go without having to drop everything and tend to baby, leaving a mess behind... I do find time to clean, my home will never be in home and gardens, but I'm getting the hang of it as life goes on... but those early days with newborn, it was a total mess!!!

I agree! When I was on maternity leave, my house was spotless. Never so clean in my life. Now, I only get to spend 3 hours a day, at most, with DS and I am not wasting them cleaning.
Don't get me wrong, all the heavy cleaning is done on the weekends, but after waking up at 6 am, working all day, then doing all the after work chores (play, bath, bottle, etc.), it's past 8:00, and then I have to start getting ready for tomorrow. By the time I'm done it's 10 and I'm TIRED! The last thing I want to do is clean and dust the house. By Friday, I have a pile of mail and the toys are no longer put together but strewn all over then room put wherever I find a place to put them, even if it's not their "spot."
It's easy to say when you are pg, but when you are in the situation, it's not so easy
ETS: I also wanted to add that now that DS is crawling, cruising and climbing, I can't leave him alone for a second. He only stays in the exersaucer for 10 minutes tops.

It gets easier once you can figure out when its a good time to do it. Its not easy and I do say to myself- life is short and Im wasting many hours cleaning when I should be out having fun- on my days off!!

Sorry, I meant older like 3, 4 and up. Yes, when they are able to go in something, it is easier to clean.

I do all my heaving cleaning on weekends too but I tidy the house everyday and wipe down the counters. If you make it an everyday thing, it will not pile up and you won't feel overwhelmed.

That's exactly what my long winded response was saying. I straighten up during the week and "clean" during the weekend.

Re: Working moms of babies 6 months and younger who do NOT have cleaning help
Well, I work out of the house during Hailey's naps and after she goes to bed. So its really tough to get anything done especially when she is crying at my leg just trying to cook dinner. If there is a night I don't work, I try to clean something or else if there is a weekend we don't have a ton of parties, I do it during her nap then. Otherwise, I try to at least do the dishes and straighting out the living room when everyone is in bed. I love having a clean house but its just not possible these days.

he's 7 months...I don't think its all his mess. I let things go all day then at night clean.
we wake up, I attempt to feed him, rush out to get a morning walk before it gets too hot. Come home, eat, takes nap. Wakes up, he plays, I heat up food for DH, we eat. Play with baby, nap again, walk, bath then bed.
I really don't get any breaks in the middle to clean. It use to drive me crazy, now I just stay up and do it.

Re: Working moms of babies 6 months and younger who do NOT have cleaning help
My house is not that bad now, but some days it just seems like there are piles of papers everywhere And DD is not really a napper so I clean as much as she lets me. I put her in her highchair, give her some toys and clean in the kitchen and living room. Then I lay her on my bed and straighten my bedroom. Sometimes she plays alone so I can clean the bathroom. Sometimes that has to wait for DH to be home. In the beginning my house was actually good because she slept all the time, now that she is awake all day it is harder.

Re: Working moms of babies 6 months and younger who do NOT have cleaning help
The last thing I want to do is clean when ds is napping, I work from home so I get as much work done as possible when he's asleep. Dh does help a lot...and he'll either clean and I'll watch the baby or vise versa
Usually it looks like a disaster but we usually straighten up at the end of the day.

Re: Working moms of babies 6 months and younger who do NOT have cleaning help
My DD only catnaps, and then only if she is in our bed (I nurse her till she falls asleep) so I pretty much stay in the room with her, and sometimes she's only out for 10 minutes anyway.
Needless to say, our house is messy but not dirty and we have clean clothes- that has to be enough for now. We are also trying to do renovations/repairs so we can put the house on the market next year.
It's easy to think that you can clean when the baby's asleep, but it's not that easy in practice.
