Working moms who have/or had a dc in day care, please come in
Question for working moms with a dc in day care: if your 4yr old is/was in day care and didn't attend a "traditional preschool", did you feel the curriculum at day care prepared your child well for kindergarten?

Yes. Mine are at Harbor Childcare. They do a preschool program as part of daycare. I think most day cares do.

AJ went to Montessori. And I would say yes and no. She was counting and knew her letters both in upper case and lower case. She knew her shapes and could sort and categorize very well. she knew her numbers up to 20 and could count up to 100 in 10s
I think they failed her in reading
All that said, Kindergarten is the great equalizer. She was way ahead of some of her classmates and behind on others (especially the older 5yr olds and 6yrs olds) But as of now she's back on top of the class. She can count to 100 and knows all 25 sight words both on sight and can spell them on demand.

Our daycare has a preschool curriculum. DS is a December baby and started K at 4. He was reading books and doing simple math before the beginning of the school year. I think his readiness was a combination of the preschool curriculum, his eagerness to learn and his ability to grasp subjects pretty quickly.

Our daycare as a preschool program and also two Pre-K programs. They also are familiar with the district so I'm sure they will have her prepared.

Our daycare has a preschool program. We are thinking about switching him to part time this coming school year so I may enroll him in UPK elsewhere (if we can get it).

There are definitely daycare centers that have education as their main focus. I think they might call themselves Early Childhood Development centers or something like that. DD goes to one of these and she's not 3 yet but I am confident that she will be just as prepared as any other kid. We love our center.
