day care moms/full time working moms (or close to it)
if your kid is in day care and/or you work full time or close to it, do you still do any mommy and me type of program--ie--music together, gymboree, etc??? I know they have programs on weekends and i can probably do something on Friday (mainly because i want to meet other moms and bonding time) but i don't know how realistic that is. DD will be in day care so she will be socializing every day (starting at 5 months). On Fridays (i am taking fridays off) i feel like i will be cleaning the house, cooking, laundry, groccery shopping, errands, etc. I will also be so tired (working as an attorney in a law firm the other days of the week...and if i have to get a motion done or didn't bill enough, fridays are back to a working day....). If we have any time, i feel like it may also be good for us to just relax a bit together or be home too....but i don't want to really "miss out" on all those programs. On weekends, i rather not schedule a class for ever sat or every sunday....id like to try and do more family things as a family...and my ILs and parents also want some time with DD i am so torn, and confused... what do you do??? I initially thought i'd sign her up for swim lessons at 6 months on weekends '(she loves the pool) and then either music together or gymboree on Friday and now i'm like... yeah right....??? sorry this is so long

Re: day care moms/full time working moms (or close to it)
I used to take DS to Music and Me, but that was before he was in daycare.
My mom and babysitter alternated days watching him and I felt like he wasn't getting any social interaction.
Now that he is in daycare I really don't see the need for classes since he gets so much interaction at daycare.
They sing every day and have Music Day every friday. They do arts and crafts. They play outside. So, I don't really see the need unless there was a specific class that I was interested in.

Re: day care moms/full time working moms (or close to it)
I work FT. DD takes music together on Sat AM from 9-9:45 but DH also comes so its still our family time. I also attend LIF GTG's when I can to meet other moms and have DD interact with other children. DD also hangs out with my nephew who is 2 alot, so she has some interaction with other kids but I would like more.

I work FT and my kids are in day care. My DD goes to dancing school on Saturday mornings, but otherwise I never did any other activity with her. When DS gets a little older I'll find something for him too, but at this age he doesn't need all that much structured activity.

Re: day care moms/full time working moms (or close to it)
DS currently goes to daycare 3 days a week so he does socialize. The other two days he is with my parents. On top of that I take him to a mommy and me class on Sat from 12-1. This is me and DS time. It does kill most of my Saturday morning and half the afternoon but I do it for him as he loves the class and the teacher. DH works crazy hours so when me and DS leave for the class that gives DH time to rest before he has to go to work Saturday afternoon or evening. Some Saturdays DH has already left for work before DS and I get home. For us family time depends more on DH's work schedule.

The kids have so many activities during the week that evenings and weekends are times for us to do less structured family stuff.
DD even takes dance class at day care because I don't want to add an activity to her schedule.

I take DS to some prgrams at the library on Saturdays. But its not all the time.
I usually pack a lot into our weekends. My library also has a story time on Wednesday nights. You are supposed to go in your PJs.
DS also has a soccer program in school so I don't have to worry about that.

My little one is 5 now and we did the same...Weekends were for unstructured fun and catching up. I can barely keep up now with her in school and all the things you can sign them up for. Enjoy your time tickling their toes or lounging lazily in bed because you can

Re: day care moms/full time working moms (or close to it)
i work full time -i am an attorney also so i know the billing requirement problem - my son goes to daycare
we do a swim classon sunday mornings and we makeit most weeks but if something comes up i skip it - i go to the y it is not expensive so i don't worry
my mom will also pick my son up from daycare on her day off sometimes or we stop there on the way home from work - at 6-12 months he ate dinner at daycare - we play for an hour then go home
i find i meet more moms by going to the gtg's from this site - i have meaning to actively join a meetup group because i think i would meet more moms that way
with fridays off - i would meetup with the aborteum group - just have to pay for parking - really nice girls

Nope- the weekends are so short I barely have time to get the house clenaed, the laundry done, the food shopping, etc
I have no desire to spend time doing that kind of stuff on my weekends either. I'm really not the "mommy and me" type mom. (I'm more of a "mommy's time out" type mom! )
I figure she gets a ton of social interaction at daycare anyway

ditto, but that doesn't seem to happen too much. DS is only 2. I'd like to do sports and other stuff in a couple of years. We do errands all together, see family (my parents, sister and cousins are so close), make playdates with friends locally, we have b-day parties and now that it's warm we invite pple over all the time to swim.

Re: day care moms/full time working moms (or close to it)
also it is a balance of costs too - i would rather have a house cleaner every other week/ every week so i can spend more time with him on the weekends - so if that means less money for classes so be it- i can find cheap things to do with him

Re: day care moms/full time working moms (or close to it)
I'm also an attorney (who hates billable hours, who doesn't? ). DD is with my mom during the week so she doesn't get any socialiization during that time. I might sign up for gymboree, but other than that, I don't plan on having structured classes - I have so little time to do everything, it seems like it would be more stressful than fun.

Same here. It works out great because we go to a very early class so it doesn't interfere with other things that we have to do on the weekend.

Re: day care moms/full time working moms (or close to it)
My kids have never taken any of those kinds of classes. We work FT, they're in school 3 days a week for at least 10 hours a day, and with my mom the other 2 days a week. So, they get the socialization, structured setting that they need. The weekends are for us to hang together and run errands, etc.
With working FT, who's got the time!

Re: day care moms/full time working moms (or close to it)
I work full time - 4 days in the office, 1 day from home and DS is in daycare part time (2 or 3x a week).
We did swimming for 8 weeks this winter for something to do out of the house. I plan on doing it again this winter.
I hired a cleaning person recently to help me balance my time better, it was a good decision for me and I feel like I have more quality time with DS now.

Re: day care moms/full time working moms (or close to it)
Full time working mom here and she's in school all day 7:30am to 6:00pm
if your kid is in day care and/or you work full time or close to it, do you still do any mommy and me type of program--ie--music together, gymboree, etc??? *****No. No time and no money and no way.
I know they have programs on weekends and i can probably do something on Friday (mainly because i want to meet other moms and bonding time) but i don't know how realistic that is. *****I have heard of these mystical things. But my weekends are my time with my child. Not to be spent running to and from this or that. I ‘d rather take her to the zoo, the park, sit in our backyard and play with water than pay someone to let us all sit together and play (but that’s me).
*****“Miss out” nah.. I don’t see it as Missing Out. Its great for those who can and want. Its no skin off my nose that I don’t. Its not like it will come up in a entry to grade school question “are you both active in Mommy & Me classes? No? Oh so sad”.
On weekends, i rather not schedule a class for ever sat or every sunday....id like to try and do more family things as a family...and my ILs and parents also want some time with DD i am so torn, and confused... what do you do??? I initially thought i'd sign her up for swim lessons at 6 months on weekends '(she loves the pool) and then either music together or gymboree on Friday and now i'm like... yeah right....??? sorry this is so long *****Do what you can and what you’re comfortable with. I wouldn’t suggest doing anything that is just because it seems the thing to do. ANY time with your child is bonding time and special time. You don’t need a teacher or a class for that. For me there’s time enough for rushing around at different classes and extra circular activities. Right now its more or less all about hugs, kisses and watching her experience the world. I prefer that time to just be the two of us. She gets plenty of group time at school (daycare). As far as the InLaws.. well that’s a battle I don’t have but I do battle with my Aunt constantly wanting her. You just learn to find a common safe ground with that one. Takes time and a lot of trial/error.

I agree. We did try Music Together on saturday mornings and my older son loved it so that was our time. HOWEVER it was hard to "fit it in" with everything else we had to do. Plus running out of the house on sat was hard when u do it all week.
I would wait until DS is a little older
