I'd be furious that I wasnt consulted in this decision. I agree with the previous poster who suggested her selling the rolex.
This might sound harsh, but sometimes the best help you can give is by NOT bailing them out. It sounds like they will have to change their lifestyle and your SIL will have to change her priorities. . . which will be better for them in the long run.
It is not your responsibility to solve their problems. If his parents or her parents want to help - let them offer.
