Would You Attend A Kid's Party if You're Not a Parent? POLL

DH and I are not parents yet but alot of our friends are. They've often invited us to their kids parties - 1 year, 2 year etc.

We feel awkward going to these parties as most of the ppl there tend to be little kids and their parents. Conversations usually revolve around what their kids did, etc.

Would you attend these parties if you're not a parent?

Yes. A lot of our family members and friends have kids and we have been to a lot of their kids' birthday parties.

If it were a close friend and I was close with her kids, I have and would.

We go to christenings and first birthday parties. After that, unless it's our nieces' parties, we've learned to decline.

Yes I would and I would bring a gift. If a dear friend of mine thought enough of me to ask, I'd go. I skipped one today though. DH went and represented both of us. I just did not feel like being social.

Generally I have not, if they were for kids specifically. If it's a family party in the house for a child's bday, we would still go but in a place designated for children's activities, we really had no interest in going if we did not have children.

We have gone to kids birthday parties. But if it's a party for kids, we will skip it depending on who the party is for. Personally, I don't feel the need to spend 3 hours watching other peoples kids play, but invite me for the coffee and cake part, I am happy to attend.

Absolutely. I had many friends who had kids before me and it was a far worse feeling not being invited than it was to be invited, show up and be the one without kids. Usually, I got to play and be the happy go lucky cool friend of mom and dad. Those were some fun times!!!

yup--asbsolutely. DH and i are the ones in our group of friends who don't have kids, and we hace been invited to many bday parties and such for their kids. i really don't mind it at all...because i know thatthey really can't make it out for dinner and drinks like our other friends can--and inviting us over to a party for their kid, is a way of trying include us in their lives. i've watched our friends' kids grow up over the years and adore going to the parties and stuff. there are always plenty of adults around for us to hang with at the ones i've been at.

Close friends of ours have three children. DH and I go to their parties all the time. They are like our neice and nephews, so we're happy to celebrate with them, and we usually end up striking up conversations with the adults there.

I was and I went. I was still single at the time, so it was a miserable experience, as everyone else there was married and a parent.

I agree. My SIL invites my DH and I to her kids' birthday parties at Chucky Cheese/kiddie arcade type places. We don't have any kids yet, but we have gone. Honestly, it's never very fun for us. Our nieces and nephews are (understandably) interested in being with their friends and playing the games. SIL mostly talks to the other parents about their kids. We feel bored and out of place. We've decided to skip it in the future.

I have, and I invited non-parents to my DC's birthday. Usually there is entertainment and the adults can mingle.

I only attend if it is at a home or a restaurant. I do not attend if it is at a kid's only place like Chuck E Cheese or a park. I always send a gift though.

of course, if it is for our nieces and nephews I will go wherever it is held - but for other family members/friends - I will pass.

Re: Would You Attend A Kid's Party if You're Not a Parent? POLL

Most of my friends have little children. Two couples who are particuarly close to us do not. One couple has teenaged girls and the other has no children together. They come to EVERY party we throw. I always am sure to have kiddie food and entertainment AND something for the adults.

I do know that they skipped one party that my girlfriend threw - but only because it was at a 'place' and there was going to be no food or entertainment for the adults... they felt awkward coming to stand around and watch.

I think I would do the same as they do.

We are the only ones out of all friends & family that are married that do not have kids. Everytime we are invited to a birthday party or any type of function for the kids, we go.

DH and I have done it many times for our close friends and family and think nothing of it. A little bit of playing with the kids, a little bit of time with the adults, time for DH and I only in the party.

We always found a way to have fun.

We went to a few kids parties for DH's cousins kids.

We had that dilemma while planning Dd's b-day party. Dh wanted to invite friends of his, bu his kids are older, meaning 18+. I don't even think the kids would come.
