Would you be concerned? Speech related.

Would you be concerned if, at just 3 years old, you only could understand about 70% of what your DC said? And they didn't say any of the guttural sounds, like G and CK and she rarely finished a word?

This is my DD. Her speech is very garbled, like she's talking underwater. People who don't spend a lot of time with her are able to understand about a quarter of what she says. What do you think?

Her speech has been a concern for along time, but due to ear issues I thought that might have something to due with it. However, she has tubes and hasn't had an ear infection in a long time, so I think that's not a concern anymore.

I know we are going to have to get her tested, just for peace of mind more than anything else....

Every child is different. I have 13 nieces and nephews and they all developed a ta different pace. My niece, now 4, was barely comprehendable until about 3/3.5 really. However, if you're concerned - talkto the pediatrician about it. My friend felt like her almost 2 year old was behind, just an instinct, and she mentioned it and then got him tested. It wasn't anything major and nothing that they probably wouldn't have caught in school, but at least they started intervention earlier - KWIM?

My ds is 3 and has the same problem. I had him evaluated but he did not receive services. Frustrating bc he has a great vocabulary but no one understands him! I'm going to hope by four things get better or I have to have him evaluated again Chat Icon
