Would you fly to Europe (or any other 7 hour flight destination) the same day dc got a vaccination?
Luce will be getting the MMR at the 12 month visit (unless I decide to delay it but for now that is the plan)
His appt is 10/21. the same day we are planning to leave for the wedding we have to go to in Spain.
would you fly with your kid after getting the vaccine?
or would you reschedule the appt or leave the next day on the trip?
I made it to be on the safe side, but there would be no issue rescheduling. the dr. said it shouldn't be a problem and said he may actually sleep better on the plane b/c of it...but I am looking for other perspectives.
I want to book my tickets soon and I am still playing musical dates.
thanks.

No way!! My son, my niece and a bunch of others all got fevers from it. My son had 103 for 3 days, then was fine. Actually its more common to have a fever after about 2-3 days from getting the vaccination for MMR, so he would be feverish the entire trip.
I'd reschedule the appointment.

no, i absolutely would not. DS had a cranky day after his 8wk shots, but was fine after the 6m shots, so it really can go either way. God forbid he has a reaction, too...
Our Dr does MMR @ 15m - you sure the Dr does yours at 12?

No, i'd schedule his appointment for after the trip.
I made DD's 1 yr visit AFTER her party weekend.

Re: Would you fly to Europe (or any other 7 hour flight destination) the same day dc got a vaccination?
Ann had absolutely no reaction to the MMR the day she got it (not even the hours of sleep like some of her other shots). She was a little just not herself the following day - she wasn't cranky or crabby at all, just not her usual very happy, silly self.
But since you never know how your child will react to any of them, I would probably just change the Dr appt.

Re: Would you fly to Europe (or any other 7 hour flight destination) the same day dc got a vaccination?
No while none of my kids every had a serious reaction to an immunization, I think it's easy to change a pediatrician appointment & get it done earlier.
edited - I would get it done eariler because the desire to travel is the reason I get the shots in the first place, so that they have some level of immunization built up.

It would depend on the vaccine. The MMR I wouldn't because both my kids got high fevers from it.

see, this is my thinking....
I am pretty sure they told me MMR at 12 months.
not sure they would give it to him a week before (not sure I want them to) and I can't change the date of the wedding, even as persuasive as I can be
oh fiddlesticks.

Re: Would you fly to Europe (or any other 7 hour flight destination) the same day dc got a vaccination?
I probably wouldn't have thought about it b/c DS has not gotten a reaction from any vaccination so far.
But now after reading that the MMR seems to cause more reactions, I don't know.

I would delay as well. Dylan just got the MMR last week and now has had a fever the last 2 days.

honestly it's not a huge deal. I would wait. a few weeks is not going to make any difference. I dont vaccinate MMR until age 2 with my kids...Do it after.

I'd wait.
7 hour on a plane will be enough of a challenge.
Why throw in the possibilty of a cranky, irritated baby ?
He might have no reaction, but you never know. Not worth the chance IMO

I know!!! one side of my brain is saying this.
the other side is saying "think of all the sniffling, sneezing, disease carrying people that will be breathing in the same air for 7 hours"
that side is scarier.

I would reschedule.
If you want him to be vaccinated before your trip, reschedule for maybe a week before. If you're okay with delaying, wait til after you come back.

i took DS on a plane at 18 months without his MMR and it was fine germ wise
i would wait---if he has a reaction (which many kids do) it will infringe on your glorious time :)

Hellllllz no! Ronan cried for 4 hours after his second set of shots. Luckily I was WAH that day. My babysitter just brought him to me and had no idea how to soothe him

the chance of a reaction is much higher then the chance someone will get getting on a plane with measales, mumps or rubella. Dont make it more then it is, and scare yourself into worry. Postpone the shot and have a nice trip. Think of it this way, most Dr's dont even vaccinate with MMR that early anyway.

I'm no scientist, but I would assume the shot takes a day or two to become fully effective...no?

ok. I think I'll lean towards delaying.

A vaccine takes about 14 days to become effective. Given that, I would just postpone the vaccine as you are really not getting the benefits of the vaccine while you are flying but you are getting all the possible reactions at that time.

ok. I'd already have gone and returned in that time span.
thanks. rescheduling the shots!
see, this is exactly why I asked!!!
