Can someone help with getting the boys off to school? Once they're out of the house - you're golden

If I had the means to do so or my mother was willing to pay for it, and I was having a csection, I definitely would!

Re: Would you hire a baby nurse - or a mothers helper?
I would look into a mothers helper. Someone who can help you towards the end of summer when you are 8-9 mths preggo (take the boys out, help bathe them etc.) Then when the baby is born she will already know the boys and their schedule to help out with them.

Re: Would you hire a baby nurse - or a mothers helper?
My husband is jewish (I'm not) and all his friends/family members all had a baby nurse...I had never even heard of a baby nurse until I met him. I personally do not like the idea of a baby nurse b/c I want to take care of the baby...I want to get up in the night and do those feedings and change the diapers and have that bonding. But to each his own - everyone is different. I watched many of my in-laws have these strangers live in their homes for 2 weeks and they loved it...became part of the family. I just know myself and I would not do well with a stranger living in my home - caring for my newborn. But I hear what you're saying...it sounds to me like you'd do better with what you said - a mother's helper for your older boys. This way you can care for the baby and the mother's helper will take care of your bigger boys. That's what I'd recommend....sounds like that would suit you better. A baby nurse is strictly there for the baby...not for you, not for your older kids. They just take care of that newborn and tell you what to do with it...which is another problem I have with baby nurses!

OMG-did I miss your announcement???!!
Congratulations
I am so excited for you!
I haven't been on in a couple of days so I must have missed it! A happy and healthy 9 months to you
As for the question at hand-why not? I would if someone insisted (but no one in my life would )

Re: Would you hire a baby nurse - or a mothers helper?
YES!!
Take the help. You wont' be able to lift Ty and it'll be a huge help. This way, you won't feel guilty if you can't lift him and have to constantly say "no".
Also, at the end of your pregnancy, might give you some peace of mind knowing you have help coming. KWIM? You might begin to stress and worry about how you're going to do it etc... Why take on the extra stress?

I know! I am really so lucky! I do think my mother feels guilty because all of my aunts help my cousins with their kids. They usually watch them 2/3 days a week, and she can't do that - so this is her way of helping.
At first I was totally against it, but the more I think about it - it will be nice to have an extra eye and pair of hands to play with the boys. I would only want someone here two days a week for a few hours I think. Who knows!

Re: Would you hire a baby nurse - or a mothers helper?
I've never had any help, but I think it would be awesome to have a baby nurse for a couple weeks after you get home to do the night shift.
As far as lifting Tyler - I was lifting Elizabeth pretty much as soon as I got home. He'll be 2 years old and should be gaining independence by then and should be able to climb into his carseat and stuff by himself.

The real issue is the crib.
Don't forget, my boys are VERY heavy. Right now Tyler is 30lbs.
ETA: See, I wouldn't want someone to do the night shift with the baby. I love that bonding time. I would rather have someone around to help with the monkeys

Re: Would you hire a baby nurse - or a mothers helper?
If she can afford it, 100% yes....Why not take the help?
SLEEP while the person is there...It wont be awkward when your exhausted!
I wished we couldve afforded one even for a few weeks when the twins were born.
Try it out at least.
PLEASE.. LOL
For all of us who wish we had/could"ve... DO IT.

forgot aboutnthe c-section part... idk bc I never had one. Do you think you'll need help? If so, then that's your answer.
The problem is I can't lift Tyler for about a month after the csection. I needed help with Jack at the same time - putting him down for naps and whatnot. It's more because I can't lift him that makes me nervous. I was able to get a few weeks help last time - don't see that happening this time around.
Well than that's more or less your answer. If you are physically restricted can't lift them/it hurts to lift them etc than you ARE going to need the help.

Re: Would you hire a baby nurse - or a mothers helper?
If YOU feel like you need one then hire one.
I had 2 c-sections and if given the opportunity to have a baby nurse or mother's helper my answer would be NO. I just don't see the need for one.
ETA: Like your aunts, my mother was/is around all the time and does watch my kids 2 times a week. Even when I was home on maternity leave, my mother would come over every single day but I still did everything because I can't sit still for sh*t! I got yelled at a lot by my mother for doing too much but I just felt like I am the mom, this is my job and my kids need me. I got yelled at for thinking that too.

See, but that's the thing. I have no one here. James is gone until 7pm. My mom works like a lunatic. Those first few weeks when I can lift Tyler will be a nightmare. I can't drive for two weeks. Who will get the boys to/from school during that time? I can't lift 30+lbs into the crib for naps and bedtime. I mean, I'm sure I would figure it out - but the more I think about a mother's helper coming here twice a week to help me, the more I'm liking the idea.

Re: Would you hire a baby nurse - or a mothers helper?
I think everything is doable. I think you would figure everything out.
I think you would lift your 30 pounders, drive after 5 days...you would make do.
but why?? If you can lay in bed and enjoy your baby do it. Let someone else make their breakfast, read to them...
I just don't know of too many mother's helpers that really work out. I think you are going to get what you pay for, so if you mother is willing to pay a really good mother's helper salary, do it.
My friends get these flakes for 10 an hour.
Also, zero bonding at night went on between me and my newborns. With #2 I tried not to make any eye contact at all in hopes that she would go back to sleep.

If you not BFing, I'd get a baby nurse. That way, she can take care of the night feedings and you can get some rest and recover from the c-section.

Re: Would you hire a baby nurse - or a mothers helper?
If you had a babysitter, would she be the one bringing the kids to school, or staying home with the baby when you do it?
I am sure you can work it out with no help, but if you have the opportunity and know it will make life easier it's worth trying out.
Can your mom / dad / James rotate a wk vacation time to get you thru the first 3 wks? At least if you have a scheduled section you can plan this out in advance.
