I wouldn't. But I was also one of those moms that didn't take DS to public places until he had his first set of shots.
Same here. But, I also had a c-section and wasn't really up to a party 3 weeks after giving birth.
ETA: My closest friend, known her almost my whole life wasn't able to come to my wedding reception since her DC was about 2 weeks old. I missed her and was sad about it, but I completely understood.

I did. Not only did I take him but we FLEW to NY for the wedding It was a family wedding and there was no WAY we could miss it. I kept him covered, didn't let anyone touch him and he slept through the whole thing.

Re: Would you take a 3 week old to a small wedding reception?
I think bottom line is.. it's a crap shoot!! Some women do and their babies are fine.. i wasn't so lucky.. a cold a 4 weeks wasn't fun...
So there are NO guarantees!! you may get lucky and DC will be fine. but you may not.. you have to decide if it's worth the risk.

Re: Would you take a 3 week old to a small wedding reception?
I wouldn't--unless like PP said it was my sister. And even in that case, I'd only stay briefly. I know a lot of ppl say they did and nothing happened, but if my DC went out that young and got ill I'd never forgive myself. It isn't worth rolling the dice IMO.
This also isn't the kind of question you can answer until you're in the situation. You have no idea how you'll physically feel and your baby's personality.

Reading these responses makes me Because my DD did NOT sleep most of the day. In fact, she rarely slept. A wedding at that age would have been a disaster- with her screaming and fussing and crying the whole time. In fact, the supermarket or BRU was hard to do. I will never forget one time my dad tried to take her for a walk in the snap n go...he ended up turning around and coming back after a few blocks because her screams were that bad....I heard them from down the block in fact...
I guess I just got VERY unlucky when it came to newborns!
This was DS as well. He cried and cried and cried
I didn't have a great first time mom experience with DS so for me I would NOT take a 3 week old to a wedding.
My Dr. said to take DS out for walks as much as I want but to AVOID crowded places and parties where people are more inclined to touch him and want to hold him. Thats when you will run into problems.
Having her catch a cold or what not is so not worth it IMO.

Re: Would you take a 3 week old to a small wedding reception?
i wouldn't, and not because of the germs- i had DD out with me at the grocery store at 3 weeks old because we needed food to eat. i wouldn't bring the baby because of all the noise (dj or not) and because at 3wks PP i wasn't up for a wedding, NM bringing my 3week old. i was just getting the hang of breastfeeding, never mind having to do it while out in public or finagle out of a fancy dress.

Re: Would you take a 3 week old to a small wedding reception?
My answer solely depends on how the couple gettng married feels about having the baby there.
If the couple is ok with it then I'd bring them.
My DS was colicky and if he was awake for the first 8 weeks he was screaming.....unless he was out of the house. For soem reason he loved to be anywhere but home so I took him out all the time and he is a dream in public but a devil the minute we walked through the front door.
And as far as me feeling up to it....I had a c section (unplanned) and was out of the hospital a day early and had xero pain and was nto taking any pain meds. I was sleep deprived but I still am at 15 weeks cause he doens't sleep through the night and I have to work full time so I go about my life and exist on 4 hrs of sleep and lots of coffee.....my Dr told me children are not a jail sentence!!!! It was the best advice ever. My DS has not stopped us from doing anything we normally do it jsut takes us longer to get ourselves out of the house to do it!

Re: Would you take a 3 week old to a small wedding reception?
I'd be afraid of germs bc you know everyone will want to see the baby. At my wedding my DH's cousin brought her newborn bc she was EBF and I was shocked. Only bc at the time I had no idea what that entailed, no one told me about it ahead of time and this was at a reception hall w/ DJ.

ETA:His pediatician warned me: No parties, no restaurants, no malls for 2 1/2 mos. He told me if my son got sick it would be an automatic ER visit with possible hospital stay. I listened to the ped.

I feel the same way. Ds was always crying & barely slept I couldn't take him anywhere without a screamfest until 3 months.
