WR - do you think its "disrespectful" to wear a strapless wedding dress?
SIL told me tonight that her FH wants her to wear a wedding dress with straps or sleeves to be "respectful" in Church. i was a little offended by this because my dress was strapless and obviously they know that.
For girls that had sleeves or straps on their wedding dresses, did you wear them to be respectful? Or did you just like the style?

i think it depends on how religious you are and how strict the church is.
or, maybe i just looked like a whore-bride in my strapless gown. what can ya do?

em, you saw my dress.
my dressmaker also made me a CAPE (yes, a CAPE ) to walk down the aisle with so I didn't have my arms exposed.
it "accidently" got lipstick all over the back of it while I was waiting in the limo.
neenie is right....I asked my priest before baring arm and he said it was fine.
some churches require that you cover up.

technically you are not supposed to have your shoulders out in church - that includes spaghetti straps and strapless ( and probably my tank style dress too )
In Europe, you can't have your shoulders or knees bare in any church.
Of course, everything is more lenient here

I agree...
My dress had sleeves that covered my arms but not my shoulders.

What? I really don't think there is a big difference between straps and no spraps...sleeves I can see as having more coverage.

definitely depends on the church/synagogue. My dress was strapless, but I checked with my Rabbi before making my final decision and had three layers on my veil to ensure that my shoulders were well-covered.

DH & I got married in a catholic church and I saw nothing wrong with wearing strapless.....i understand some religions require you to cover your shoulders, but my church didn't and i didn't feel disrepectful, i felt like a beautiful bride

Re: WR - do you think its "disrespectful" to wear a strapless wedding dress?
I had a strapless dress, but wore a coordinating beaded scarf like capelet in the church.
My boobs are on the large side, so I felt like it was disrespectful if I didn't. If I had a smaller chest, I may have worn my dress w/o the capelet.

If it was offensive, they probably would frown upon wearing it in church, and I've never seen that. And not for ntohing, why is he dictating what her dress should look like?
