WWYD - Daycare Related
Today is DD's first day at her new daycare. Even though I've brought her in a few times to help her "transition" this morning was still a really rough drop off. I suspect it will take her some time to really adjust since she's only there 2 days a week and not consecutive days.
Anyway, at her old daycare she NEVER napped. I was lucky if she slept for 30 minutes once per day. (at home she is an awesome napper/sleeper).
I gave the new daycare an outline of what her day at home looks like (I do NOT expect them to follow it to the letter, it's just so they know what her routine is at home and what to sort of expect from her).
Now to my question: I can log in from work and see her classroom on my computer. All the rooms except for the crib room for the infants have cameras. I did not see her for the past 90 mintues so I assumed she was napping in the crib room (which made me VERY happy). However, I just logged on a few minutes ago and saw one of the teachers take her out of one of the swings in the room.
DD is 10 months old and the last time she was in a swing she was maybe 4.5/5 months old. While I don't really mind it, I don't want them to create this habit of her napping in the swing (especially since hers is packed away and she's over the weight limit on our swing at home).
Should I say something when I pick her up? Ask why they had her napping in the swing? I have to assume she was napping because I know my daughter and know she would not just sit in a swing for 90 minutes. Or should I just let it slide?
I'm kind of torn.....
TIA

I would probably say something in a casual manner, and try to see if she was definitely sleeping for 90 minutes in the swing or if there was something else going on
Once you find out the details, then decide if you want to bring it up in a differentway

I would say something. I'm not a big fan of putting babies, especially older ones, in a swing to nap. Yes, it's harder to deal with a baby who won't nap all day, but that's what they are paid to do - not to create bad habits so they can get a break.
They don't have swings at our daycare - though they do let babies nap in bouncy seats or take them for a walk to help them nap. I'm in the middle of sleep training Yael and trying to transition her to her crib so I've given our infant center specific instructions to not allow her to nap anywhere but her crib

I would probably say something, I agree with you at her age you don't want to start creating bad sleeping habits. I am suprised they put her in the swing at all, DS is small for his age and hasn't been in the swing since he was about 4 months old!

Yes... I would same something. I know you don't expect them to do everything the exact same way you do they should respect your wishes. Also, my daycare doesn't keep the babies in the swing for too long. Once I told them I didn't want DS sleeping in the swing b/c I don't want him to get used to taking naps in there all the time. They said they usually don't, but he fell asleep in it (they rotate the kids from swing to exersaucer, mat, platmat, etc).
Only time they put DS in the swing is if he's a little congested and he's having a hard time napping and breathing and they tell me they put him in the swing b/c his nose was stuffy.

I woudl also worry about the weight limit....I mean how much more could theirs be? I think my rainforest swing was 23 lbs...
Isn't she miserable with no naps? I would die

Ask.
Unless you gave them instructions not to use the swing, they really had no clue. Lots of babies sleep in those swings so they may have just assumed you'd be ok with it.
I advise you be clear. It takes time not only for her to get used to the daycare but you too. Communication is key. You need to let them know what your expectations are as they come up. Sometimes overloading them with a lot and saying "that's it" is just not practical. Things change and so you'll need to adjust as they do.
I watch my daughter on video as well. When she goes missing we actually call and ask. I found that a lot of the times they take them out for a ride around the property in their buggy for 30mins. Bundled up of course, at least at that age. Now AJ is older they let them actually play outside.
I also think its a good thing to let them know you do watch her. I am sure you're not the only mom who watches, worries and calls. its just how you handle yourself that makes this relationship work or not.

Yeah, I'd ask too...my DD is 4 months old and I think she's getting close to being done w/the swing, I can't imagine 10months
I would casually just ask too...see what they say first

I have the boppy travel swing and I believe she's just at the weight limit. They have larger swings there, and I know she is under the weight limit (she's 19-20lbs) and yes, she is a BEAST when she doesn't nap!
They did ask me about the swing last week and I told them that I didn't think she would take to it as she doesn't like to be confined especially now that she is very mobile.
I'll ask about it when I pick her up, but let them know I want her napping in the crib.
Thanks!

what is the scoop???
They put her down in the crib and she started screaming and would not calm down. The teacher tried to rock her, gave her, a paci (which she never takes anyway), shushed her, etc... and she just wouldn't settle, so they had to take her out. As a last resort she put her in the swing and she fell asleep (she's still sleeping).
I had a nice talk with the teacher, and since it's Samantha's first day, I'm letting it slide...she understands where I'm coming from and will work over the next couple of weeks to transition her to the crib. I explained she does not go in the swing at home and hasn't since she was 5 months old. I know they have to get know eachother and Samantha is in a new and strange environment.
I did tell the teacher though that under no uncertain circumstances is she to be in the swing when she is awake.
I think part of it is that her teacher doesn't come in until 9am and I really wanted to talk with her this morning instead of the early morning teacher who is really a fill in until the regular teachers get there. So I just felt my instructions weren't passed over clearly.
