WWYD - Friend's Baby Shower?
I am posting here, because I am interested in the point of view of the pregnant ladies
My baby shower was on Long Island (which is about 8 hours from where I live now). I did not invite friends from my new town because I did not want them to feel like they HAD to attend. I was going to have a small second shower in my new town, but I never did...
Well, fast forward 6 months... A very good friend of mine where I live now is expecting and she invited me to her OOT baby shower 5 hours away. She did not attend my baby shower because I did not invite her, however she did get me a very nice baby gift.
I work FT, and would have to leave DS home with my Mom while I travel to this baby shower OOT and probably stay overnight. DH works weekends and cannot take off to come with me or to watch DS. I do not want to go, but I feel like I *should*.
WWYD? Do you think I have a legitimate reason for not attending?

I think you absolutely do because you have a baby. I would kindly decline for that reason and send a gift.

if its too much trouble, which it seems like it is, politely decline and give a nice gift. im sure she'll understand that it being 5 hours away makes it hard on you.

ITA. There were many people who didn't come to my shower because it was going to be a nice day and they wanted to go boating or something. I didn't care!

Re: WWYD - Friend's Baby Shower?
You definitely have a good reason. I moved around a lot my whole life, so my bridal shower and upcoming baby shower will be tough for my friends and family to make it. They are all out of state. I didn't expect them to make it, but the ones that did come made me feel sooooo good! I have always traveled for showers that were a few hours away, but very few did it for me. I would say if she is a really close friend, try to make it, or send a gift and a card. If she is a good friend, but not that close, then she will definitely understand!

I think she just wanted you to know you were thought of and left the ball in your court. She probably doesn't expect you to go, but wanted to invite you because you have both known one another for a while now.

I think you should decline and send a gift. If one of my friends had to travel 5 hours to get to my shower, I would not be hurt in the least if they did not attend.

I'm sure she just wanted you to feel included. I doubt she would have a problem if you couldn't make it. Just send a gift.......

Just send a gift- I am sure she doesn't really expect you to drive 5 hours for a baby shower!

Re: WWYD - Friend's Baby Shower?
I would def. decline, and then just send a real nice gift to her..possibly even before the shower. I think she will understand a 5 hour drive with a baby...

IT seems totally reasonable for you to decline and just send a nice gift - she'll understand.

Re: WWYD - Friend's Baby Shower?
I think she's just being polite.
Send her a gift and think nothing of it.

Re: WWYD - Friend's Baby Shower?
Yes, I just do not think it is practical to travel 5 hours for a baby shower if it is not easily do-able for you. I have a best friend, grandmother, aunt and cousin that missed my shower (three in chicago one in florida) and I understand completely. I would send a gift and just be honest with your friend. WIth your baby and your hubby's work schedule I think she will completely understand

I think you have every right to not attend and she might actually be expecting you to say no.

I would kindly decline and send a gift. I'm sure she understands and doesn't expect everyone to travel 5 hours, just like I don't expect my girls from MD to come to mine...even though they are
