Re: WWYD - photographer and $ when kids don't cooperate
i am glad she responded to you in a positive way Also everyone should always have a signed contract! Please it does you and your photographer good to have one in place. Sounds like she tried her best to help the situation out which was bad and she is doing a great service by giving you another session!
Peainapod you should of had the opportunity to view your images prior to them being sent out.

Some have a sitting fee which is non refundable, did you have a contract? No contract , no deposit, her holiday rate was $150 - 1 hour of session time and a CD and she said 20-50 pictures "best images" I assume this means she would go through the pictures and pick put/edit the best ones . IMHO I think it would be nice of her if she charged 1/2 fee -basically for wasting her time.
Someone asked what was she doing, she was trying to distract my DD, brought out bunch of toys, tried singing to her, talking to her, playing with her, holding the camera hoping she could get few good shots, but no luck, as I mentioned DD didn't even let us change her into her outfit. When things get crazy like that time flies I guess, before we knew it almost 1 hour had passed.
I actually just emailed her and asked if we could do 1 hour session this spring, she said no problem and there won't be a charge for it, so that's nice of her I guess. Thanks everyone, I will know better how to handle situations like this in the future :)
i think she handled it the right way. it stinks that you werent able to get any pictures now and i agree, she could have charged you a little less, but she did the right thing by offering the spring session free of charge.

i would want to pay something but not the whole fee because that 1 hour isn't the full amount of time they spend due to editing photos etc...
maybe you can see about getting a partial credit towards another session with them in the future...
THIS. When you pay for a photoshoot, you are paying not only for their time while taking photos, but the time put in to edit them as well. Since the photographer didn't have anything to edit, a partial credit or makeup day would be a fair compromise. If it doesn't fit your schedule, then don't complain. At least it was offered. I think you have to take it or leave it, IMO.

You have to pay them. They are working regardless of whether your child is behaving.

That's a tough one, but at the end of the day, whether or not your child cooperated isn't really the fault of the photographer. Regardless, they devoted an hour of their time to you and should be compensated.
ITA I would never dream of not paying if my dd didn't cooperate during a shoot. Its not the photographers fault and you used the photorgrapher time. I would definitly pay.
