WWYD about a class you signed up for but didn't meet your expectations?
We signed ds up for a class on Sunday mornings. I don't want to mention the name but it's a combination of music, developmental toys, stories, and baby signs. So anyway, it was supposed to be for infants 3 months - 12 months. When we get to the class there is ds (7 months), a 3 month old, and 2 toddlers around 18 months.
The teacher/director mentions that she did not have enough enough people so she combined the infant and toddler classes for that morning. She also said she expected a few more kids to come the next week.
The next week another toddler shows up and as I expected the 3 month old dropped out. I mean, he really wasn't old enough in my opinion to get much if anything out of the class.Anyway, now we are ds (7 months) and 3 toddlers.
I feel like now the class is really geared toward the older kids. For one, we did not even talk about baby signs once. I feel like the toys are things ds can barely use (and just wants to put in his mouth) and some of the concepts are way over his head.
On the other hand he seems to really enjoy most of it. He stares at the other kids singing and really pays attention when the teacher reads the story. He also loves when she blows bubbles at the end of class.
I paid in full for the entire semester on the first day b/c we liked the class a lot and expected it to end up more even regarding the age group (plus there was a pay in full discount).
I could probably get my money back but idk- what would you guys do? I would have to research another class as well b/c out of the three I looked into this was the only one that could accommodate my schedule with working full time- a lot of these classes are for weekdays and I can't do it.

Do they have other locations that offer classes? Maybe one of the other locations has a class with children closer to DC's age. If not, can you ask if you can postpone taking the class until the next semester? Maybe you'll get a younger group of kids next semester.

This outweighs everything else you said, to me. At 7m, do they really get anything? I mean I don't know but I think if they are just enjoying something they are taking away so much.
Its sounds like an amazing class. I wish I knew of something like that in my area. I take DS to a music class, which he enjoys for the most part, but gets cranky and tired by the end, or in the beginning, or whenever. I'm just glad he gets to meet other babies and experience some kind of structured learning environment that doesn't revolve around mommy. Really I don't expect more than that.

I totally agree! When we joined Music Together my DD was 6 1/2 months..she was with mostly toddlers, in a few weeks she was sitting up laughing at the kids playing etc..a lot changes in a few short weeks. It is great IMO to expose your DC to older kids..they learn very well from that!! I think we have expectations that they will get a ton out of something and sometimes it is just for us to get out too and see other moms lol and like previous poster said get to see it doesnt always revolve around Mommy! If it were me I would stick it out, but do what feels right for you!

ITA I actually think DC will get more out of being the youngest; if my DC were the oldest and the class was geared to the little ones I'd probably withdraw him though. If he's enjoying it, that would be the deciding factor for me (as long as the teacher does acknowledge him and tries to include him as well).

i say keep DC in the class. i signed up for Music Together 2 weeks ago and DD wasnt a huge fan, she was looking at all the kids and didnt know what the heck were doing there, last week was much better, and im expecting tomorrow shell be even more into it. i think anything you do with them, like these classes, trips etc... they absorb it all

I agree with everyone else! When Jack was 6 mnths old we did a music together class, he was the youngest by nine mnths. Didn't bother me one bit, he loved it

Thanks for all the advice. I'm gonna keep him in since he has a good time. I think I needed someone to point it out to me that dc having fun really equals the class being a success.
