WWYD: Combining DC's first birthday with DH's 40th?
DS's birthday is mid April. We don't have the space in our house for an indoor party at home. DH's 40th bday is in June. I was thinking of just having one party in May for both of them in our backyard. Most of the guests would be adults and older kids. Yay or nay?

Personally I would say nay because i would want the 1st bday to he special and geared towards kiddies. And 40 is special to hubby so i wiuld gear party more towards adults. I think it takes something away from each doing it together.

i had thought of doing that as well but there would be people i would invite to my son's 1st that i wouldn't invite for my hubby's party so i wouldn't want them to be obligated to bring something.

I wouldn't. A 40th and a 1st bday are very different.

Thanks for the honest opinions. I was having reservations for the reasons you all mentioned. I'm just going back and forth on whether to have a real party for DS's first bday - the expense, the weather in April for an outdoor party. But if we don't have a big party for his bday, I will feel weird/guilty throwing a party for DH. I can't afford two big parties so close together. Back to the drawing board.

honestly.... a 1 year old isn't going to remember their first birthday...
DH will remember his 40th.. Maybe make a big 40th for him and decorate for him
Then just have smaller family party for sons first birthday?

i would do a big party for DHs 40th. for the babys 1st you could do just close family and friends in a restaurant or at your house. keep it small, the baby wont know the difference.

I had the same issue.
I wound up doing a party for the kids at our house and inviting DH's friends to a bar for a night out.
