WWYD? Daycare related
DD has been going to an in-home daycare for the past 3 years. The deposit for next year was due in January and I paid it ($200). After January, things changed at the daycare and I realized that my DD was outgrowing this place and needed a more structured school setting. I enrolled her in March in a Pre-K program. I gave notice to the owner at her current daycare who told me that her spot would have to be filled (for Sept- they run on a school schedule) to get my deposit back. She is the 4th spot that has to be filled. There was no waiting list, so she didn't turn anyone away because my DD's spot was reserved. I asked her last week if she was any closer to filling the spots and she said no, so no deposit back. My DD's last day is in 2 weeks.
Side note- the other spots- #1 & 2 are siblings that gave 2 weeks notice and switched this yr. I don't even know if they reserved for Sept. Spot #3 gave notice right before me. One spot has been filled for next year- but who knows if the family that left got their deposit (I doubt they even gave one for Sept because they left shortly after contracts were due.) I don't think anyone is going to get their deposit back....
At the end of the year I usually give gift cards to the owner and the other teacher. But I'm annoyed that with so much notice I'm not getting my deposit back. My Dh says to just not give gifts this year, but I feel funny not giving a gift. WWYD? Give a gift or not?

Re: WWYD? Daycare related
if it's in house - does that mean there is only one person? or are there hired people that work there?
don't hold it against hired people...but if it's just the owner - F her. give her a $5 DD GC

Re: WWYD? Daycare related
I have an in-home daycare provider now. She does not even take a deposit, but I am not sure I would expect it back if I just gave notice now(people are calling her all year and she is constantly turning them down......then again, she would never have that many open spots. I am thinking of a $200deposit? but maybe you are talking about more. I think I would just consider the deposit her gift, and not get annoyed or worry about it anymore.

Re: WWYD? Daycare related
An in home provider actually took a deposit and is now refusing to return it?
Thats bad karma.
