WWYD if your mother and mother in law did NOT like the name you picked?

Yesterday we all had a conversation about the name we are thinking and my mother and mother in law felt they needed to tell us how they hate the name (more my mother in law) At first it bothered me but then after speaking to hubby about it we decided its OUR child and if that's the name we choose then so be it. We have 8 days until our lil man is here so this is the last thing I would like to be stressing about lol.

I would tell them exactly what I told my mother when she was being pushy about us telling her the name we chose. They had the opportunity to name their children already, this is yours & DH's time to do that. Do what you and DH are comfortable with, you don't want to look back and be bummed that you made the choice based on someone else's thoughts.

I would say dont stress it. Its your child. In fact i would ask both of them didnt Your mother teach you if you dont have anything nice to say dont say anything at all! This is their grandchild and you guys are excited about naming him, they shouldnt take that from you...

honestly, it would bother me but like you said, it is your child and you have to be the one to love it in the end and after the baby comes, it's a completely different story.

I was just talking to somebody this weekend about baby names and she was saying how before her sister's baby was born, everyone gave her such hell for planning to name him tristan. She said the whole family hated the name.

However, after the baby was born, they allll of course fell in love with the baby and can't imagine him being called anything else.

I would tell them that it is not their choice. End of Story. They will love the baby no matter what.

I would tell them to F off.....no joke. I do not care if others like the name. My DH and I picked it. They had the chance to name their kids.

This is why we aren't telling anyone what name we pick because I don't want to hear whey other people think, its our child.

I would assume that in about 8 days they'll be too in love to remember they didn't like his name at first! I'd go with your choice and figure they'll get over it real fast.

Thats why i told them when he gets here, they will know what the name is. I dont want anyone's negative reaction to make me second guess myself

My husband and I were back and forth with names. A lot of the names he liked I didn't and vice versa. I liked the name Nicholas and so did my mom. My DH wasn't thrilled with it at first but it grew on him and thats what we are naming him but my dad hates it. He said to me the other day don't let your mom talk u into it. I said I was the one who came up with the name. He then said well ur husband should have a say. I said he likes it too. So then my father said its your child name him what u want and I told him I would! lol. I wouldn't let my parents or DH's parents dictate what i name my child. They had their turn to name their children now its our turn!

thats exactly the reason why we arent telling anyone until our makes her appearance. IMO they had their chance to name kids when they had their own.

I would ignore it.

It's your child, not hers.

If the name is important to you and DH and you are both happy with it, that is all the matter ands that is the name your child deserves to have. Not some other choice just because MIL approves of it...

I'm sorry you are dealing w/this. DH and I have heard for some time how MIL hates her Father's name and we arent allowed to name our son that name. Its a very uncommon name, very Italian. I know it comes from a good place in her heart but she just doesnt get the fact that her opinion does not matter. DH's grandfather was his hero, he loves and misses him very much. I think its a unique and strong name. DH & I agreed this weekend that so far, its our top boy name. We arent def going w/the name but it is a strong possibility. I think its great that you came to the conclusion that you did. Bravo to the both of you! We obviously have come to the same conclusion as you and your DH. We are and plan on not telling anyone our names until the babes is born. Anyone who doesnt like it can go cry in a corner b/c it will be their problem not ours.

It is my baby not theirs...they had their chance to name their children and now it is yours and DH's turn to name YOUR child!

I told my parents that naming a baby is not a democratic decision. Period!

My in-laws are not happy with the name DH and I are naming our DS because they are old school Italian and believe the baby should be named after my DH or his father. DH and I basically told them that is what we picked and that's it. So, they have no choice but to deal with it.
