WWYD: If your parents hated the names you picked out. Did you use them anyway?
They liked our boy names but did not like (let me re-phrase, HATED) our girl names....If this happened to you, did you still use a name they didn't like?
Our girls names are...or were...(who knows now):
Madelyn/Madeleine Rose (not sure of the spelling yet and no significance)
Zoey Dianne (Dianne is my mom's name so I thought that was cinch it for her...she didn't seem to care  )
WWYD?

Use them if YOU like them. It is not their child, they got to pick names for their kids already.
They will love the baby no matter what the name, and if they make mention of the names again, tell them when they push a 9 lb baby out THEIR hoo ha, then they can name it.
(I know it doesn't help you, but this is why we didn't tell the names we were picking).

Those are both really nice names. I mean, ifit was something like Princess Jellybean, then maybe I would think about it..
What don't they like?

I know!  I thought they would at least like Madelyn. I knew Zoey would be a hard sell anyway, but we think it's cute.
No other girl names are really grabbing us!

Honestly I don't think I could use a name that my mom hated.

Everyone in my immediate family HATED our first thoughts for DSs middle name. We changed it. I will say that I was still up in the air about the name in the first place so it was ok with me.

my mother hates both my boy name and girl name.
julian is too feminine
emmanuelle she just doesn't understand at all.
she named her's...i will name mine.
she really wants me to go with joaquin. and for a girl she wants lily or quinn.
no one on earth says josh as much as i do to this kid. i have to pick a name i want to be said over and over again.

Off topic, but...
This also works for just about anything else anybody says to you too. I said it to my 53 year old uncle that told me that he wasn't going to give me my son so he could take a 'stupid picture with his stupid cake'. I told him when he pushes a 8 lb baby out of his vagina, he can not have his kid take a stupid picture with cake. He promptly gave me my son and had no comeback (which he normally does). I think half the party nearly peed their pants when they heard that one.

Personally, it doesn't matter to me what other people think, even my parents. It is the name that DH and I chose and if they don't like it, so be it.
I would not change a name that DH and I selected because family members don't like it.

This is exactly why I am not telling anyone, including my parents and in-laws, the names we pick because I don't want to hear it. Honestly, it would probably bother me so much that they hated it I would reluctantly change them.

my dad and my mother in law hated the name logan. we named our ds logan anyway. we loved it. now my dad and mother in law admit my son looks like a total logan and the name has grown on them.

I believe my maternal grandparents hated my name and I was their only grandchild! My mother didn't care.
I know my MIL doesn't like the name Elizabeth - she told me so years before I had her. I don't care.
And Madeline is a contender for my not-yet-conceived baby #2. I think you and I should name all of our children the same!

do what you want...someone is always going to not like a name. We have a first and middle name picked out for our but my grandfather is dying of cancer, should he pass before I give birth we will be changing the middle name to honor him. and honestly there are not many names beginning with the letter of his name that sounds good with the first name we want. So I know people are prob not going to like her middle name, but I dont really care

I would go with what you like. They got their chance to pick names!
Both of our parents HATED DS's name. My mom even kept telling us to buy a baby name book every time I spoke to her even though we had our names picked before we were even PG. Funny how now she says what a beautiful name it is (and completely denies ever not liking it!) and how much it suits him. Trust me, when they see that baby, they'll start to love the name
