WWYD? Job related - UPDATE

UPDATE:

The decision has been made for me. I am being transferred on Friday. I am kind of in shock - this was not my decision and that stings.

********************************************************

A. Stay at your current position. Location is in a separate building from the "higher-ups" so it's a more relaxed atmosphere. Commute in the morning is approximately 30-45 minutes depending on traffic. You've done the same job for several years so you know it very well, you do a good job, get lots of compliments on your work. Lots of down time. However, work can be boring, because it's mostly report-writing, and sometimes stressful because of deadlines.

B. Move to a new position within the same company. More rigid atmosphere, in the same building as those in charge. From what you have heard, morale is non-existent. New position would also be stressful because of responsibilities, but there would be fewer deadlines to meet, and work would consist of face-to-face interaction rather than writing reports, so the stress would be a different kind, and would probably lessen with time. Commute would become 45 minutes to over an hour unless nanny would agree to come in earlier, and in that case work hours would change and commute would increase by about 10-15 minutes.

Change in position does not come with a raise or promotion of any kind.

Re: WWYD? Job related

I don't see any benefit to choice B, so I'd stay with A.

Re: WWYD? Job related

I would totally stay put. Especially in these times where you really don't know what you are getting into and it could be totally awful.

stay where you are comfortable, especially if you don't get any kind of compensation for making a move.

Re: WWYD? Job related

Sounds like you answered your own question by the way you phrased it.

Seems like there's more to the story. Is there career advancement? Is the other spot more high profile?

It would be a welcome change of pace. More interesting caseload. Fewer (if any) reports to write - and if I did have to write a report, instead of the usual 8-10 pages they would only be 3-4 pages and very basic.

If you didn't like it do you think there would be an option to go back?

Nope. I'd never be allowed to come back unless the economy did a serious 180 and we got a ton more employees.

sounds minimally better. The only way I would move is if it paid better and gave me career advancement.

What's even more awesome is that this didn't have to happen if a certain arsehole actually did the job they were told to do. It's so much more than what I thought it was Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
