WWYD re: a friend's shower
One of my college roommates is having her shower on June 26, about 3 hours away. At that point, I will be 37w4d. My initial thought was to go, and have DH drive me (he has friends in the area he could hang out with during the shower), but it turns out he has to work that morning and won't be able to. So would you go and drive yourself at that point? Although I know it's likely that nothing will happen, I am nervous about having to drive myself back if it does.

Ugh it's a tough call and even though I am crazy I wouldn't. Those last couple of weeks you are just going to want to take it easy....

That's a tough call.
I would play it by ear. If you have absolutely nothing going on at your last check up, I would consider going.
It really depends on how close you guys are. If you're not that close....don't risk it.

Definitely a tough call. I agree with this though. If your DH was able to go with you then I would probably just go. But since you'll be going alone, that's a little more risky IMO.

Re: WWYD re: a friend's shower
I prob wouldn't go if it was me. 3 hrs is a long drive to do by yourself.
I am sure your friend will understand.

Re: WWYD re: a friend's shower
If something DOES happen, you can't drive yourself home. So your DH would have to come get you - you are potentially six hours away from home and your hospital.
Like a PP said, if you schedule a doctor's appointment for the day before and they say that NOTHING is going on AND you feel up to it I guess you can go.
But even that, my sister was told that she would have two more weeks and she gave birth THAT night. . . . I don't know what I would do

Re: WWYD re: a friend's shower
I know you and she will be disappointed, but I wouldn't travel further than an hour with almost 2 weeks left to go, and definitely not by myself. I *just* asked this question at my last OB visit and they said to limit travel to no further than an hour within 3-4 weeks of your due date and prior to that to make sure you stop every 45 mins on the road to get out and walk around to prevent blood clots.
I would be way too nervous driving that far without DH
probably not the answer you wanted, sorry

Re: WWYD re: a friend's shower
I definitely would NOT go. I'm sure your friend has to understand your reasoning. My hubby would also not want me to go either, he wouldn't be too happy and would be way too nervous for me! I say send her a nice gift and get together after you have the baby!!!

Re: WWYD re: a friend's shower
Before i had my son i would say go but after habign my son in boston when i live on Long island - i would say not go
I was 37 weeks, and went for once last trip to Boston for work. I felt great and was only staying one night. My water broke at 2 am in the hotel. My husband got a 4 hour drive to see his son born and only saw him born because i was strep B+ and needed antibotics so i had to get an epi at almost 10 centimeters

If DH could have driven you, fine but I wouldn't drive myself that far away.

Thanks ladies! I think I kind of knew what the consensus would be...I just feel bad, but I know she will understand.
