WWYD-re toddler eating...

I know he won't starve himself, but this is bothering me right now.

Christopher ate a banana and had some milk around 10am.

I made him a cheese quesadilla with some multigrain chips around 12pm so he could eat lunch with me nad DH. He ate maybe 3 chips.

He hasn't asked for anything since then. I keep asking him if he wants cheese, chicken nuggets, a banana, apples, cookies, cereal bars and he says NO to each one and ignores meChat Icon

What do I do ? He has never flat out refused to eat dinner.

DH is asleep for the night and I am not eating dinner....

I would make him nuggets, put it in front of him -- he may eat it once he sees itChat Icon

Re: WWYD-re toddler eating...

I would make something and maybe leave it out for him...let him graze for it by himself.

I've definitely learned...you can't FORCE them to eat.

So maybe allowing it to be on his terms tonight he'll pick at something if just left out on the table.

The quesadilla has been reheated 2x and is on the table....

I think I will make him nuggets and put a cheese on the plate and see if that works. It is bothering me that I know he is tired and will go to sleep like this, you know?

I know tomorrow he will have pizza, cupcakes, etcChat Icon Chat Icon

same here. i will leave food out for her to graze upon to make sure she gets something in her during the day. forcing it just doesn't work. usually i can get one decent meal in her per day (by her standards, can't compare to others her age).

I think that sometimes they get stubborn with food...did you put the chicken nuggets out for him?

Re: WWYD-re toddler eating...

like other said, I usually put good out for him like I do for my cats....if he's hungry he will bite. If not I don't sweat it.

This made me smileChat Icon

Yeah, I put out 3 dino nuggets and a string cheese, he ate one and the cheese and then Mags stole the rest. So I made 3 more and he didn't touch them.

Oh well. He is drinking chocolate milk and watching Dora nowChat Icon Chat Icon

I think we are having the same night.

Logan (who is usually an AWESOME eater) didn't want dinner.

I finally made some hot dogs, grapes, apples and cheese and put it in front of him.

That was close to 90 minutes ago and he's still just nibbling on it while watching Curious George.

Try something different for him. I know Nina will act like she has no interest in the meal I made her but if I cook something else and put it out, she will eat it up. Maybe hes just not in the mood for a quesadilla. However, I am Chat Icon

Re: WWYD-re toddler eating...

I know what you mean. Today DD had 2 waffles for breakfast (full size ones, not minis) and milk. Then we went to Houston's for lunch at the mall and she refused her chicken tenders and ate like 3 fries and milk. After her nap she has more milk and cantaloupe. Then for dinner she refused everything and wound up eating more cantaloupe, half a banana and half a waffle. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Just remember he will eat when he's hungry. DS has refused dinner more than once and he usually just wakes up and eats a huge breakfast. I know how frustrating it is Chat Icon

Re: WWYD-re toddler eating...

Kate I think it may be something about the age they're at because Benjamin has been doing the same thing lately. I actually have been doing what other Mom's suggested with regards to leaving something out for him. Sometimes he eats, sometimes he doesn't. Either way, they won't starve. My ped had assured me it's normal behavior at this age and to not be concerned unless he starts losing weight or flat out refusing to eat anything at all. Chat Icon

DS does same thing sometimes and just like other posters said, as long as he has eaten something during the day I am fine with it.
