wwyd? Sleeping/routine question

My son regularly falls asleep around 6:30 in the evening and sleeps for 2-3 hours. Would you consider this bedtime or a nap. I'm always confused as to whether I should keep him up a little when he wakes up around 9-10 then put him back down around 11:30-12 OR if I should feed him when he wakes up around 9-10 and put him right back down. (I'm still up every 3 hours at night for feedings if that has any relevance). I personally would like him to go to bed around 7:30-8, but he always falls asleep earlier!

Re: wwyd? Sleeping/routine question

When my DD was that little, she didn't really have a "bedtime." She just slept in 3 hour chunks (approx.) throughout the day.

When he wakes up at 9/10 and you feed him, does he need to eat again at 12 or 1? If so, I'd put him right back down, if he'll go. This way, you'll get a chance to rest, too.

If you keep him up until 11:30 or 12, does he eat again before he goes back down? If you're up anyway, and that means you'll get to 3 without having to feed him again, that's not a bad idea.

I don't think I answered your question, but what I would do is put him down right after feeding him at 9/10.

Yes, he always eats again around 12-1. He should be up momentarily so I may just feed him and put him right back down in the room so I could get some rest! I'm a bit of an early bird so keeping him up is not fun for mommy! I guess if I kept him up and he slept throug the night it would be different, but he is up every three hours regardless!

Does he take a pacifier? can you put the pacifier in after his 11-12 midnight feeding and try to get to 6? I started that at around 3 mos and it worked !

do you breastfeed?

Sorry, for some reason, I thought he was much younger. I'd definitely put him right back down after the 9 or 10 feeding, maybe you can catnap before then, too.

Yes, I breastfeed. He takes a paci sometimes..but I'll try this tonight. I would LOVE to get to 6! He may still need another few weeks of 3 am feeding though bc he always seems hungry!!

I know, I should really start napping around 7:30 with him!

Re: wwyd? Sleeping/routine question

I have an idea to try if you have a pump!!

I do this with formula.. I do breast feed also but that last bottle is a huge 6 oz formula..

This is my idea...but I need to know how much he usually drinks if you pump sometimes.. My DD takes 3-4 oz in the day when I pump so thats why I do the 6 oz at night ..at 9pm.. So if you can pump 2oz more than he normally drinks into a bottle I bet you can get him to sleep longer and use the pacifier at 3 .. Do I make sense? Chat Icon

He drinks around 4 oz each feeding I think???? I really only give him a bottle when I have to go somewhere. I may have to try this trick soon though...I havn't had more then 3 hours of straight sleep in over 10 weeks!!! I should try the paci in the middle of the night to see if he is really hungry or just needs to be soothed with a paci back to sleep. TOnight at 3 I'm going to really take notice of how long he is feeding to see if it is just a little dream feed and not completely necessary. THX so much for the adviceChat Icon Chat Icon
