WWYD? So annoyed UPDATE

Every year we have christmas eve with my dad and step-mom at their house. This year SM e-mails me to say they are both working during the day and not sure what the plans are. I offer to do it at my house because DH and I are both off and it would be easier to have DD at home.

NO REPLY...NOTHING.

So yesterday I call my dad and tell him again that we would like to have christmas eve at our house since they both have to work during the day. He says he'll have to run it by SM. UMMM HELLO??? haven't you already talked about this??

He said he'll get back to me and here we are at 6pm the night before with still no answer.

What do I do? Call AGAIN? or just assume they aren't coming? I don't know if I should cook and clean or just make other plans.

Also I am kinda hurt because it is DD's 1st christmas and they really don't seem to care.

If you are still reading thanks for listening

Re: WWYD? So annoyed

I'd give it until 8pm or so and then call back. Be honest with them...tell them you have to go shopping and start cooking in the AM, and you really need to know (and hope they are!) coming.

Hope it works out!

ETA: My IL's "took a pass" on our family Thanksgiving dinner at our home with DD. Don't try to make sense of it, you'll only drive yourself crazy. Enjoy those who ARE with you. It's their loss.

Do you normally do a big Christmas Eve with alot of food - because if so I would be freaking out right now. I'm a mess for Christmas Day and my table is already set, and the food has been bought.

Do they think they can just call you up tomorrow and say then are coming over tonight for dinner?

Totally agree with this! I don't know what it is about this year, but it seems like a LOT of people are working. Just found out that most of DH's family is working so the plans don't even start until 7pm tomorrow night Chat Icon Chat Icon . I have no clue how that is going to work for us since we have a 14 month old who's asleep by 7 most nights Chat Icon .

What do you want to do?

Waiting around to see if they show for dinner so you can be angry doesn't sound like a good plan.

I would call and tell them what you want. If they aren't coming, what would you do? Quiet Eve with just you guys or with friends?

At this point you've extended the invite so as a courtesy, call & say you've made other arrangements since you didn't hear back from them.

For us Christmas morning is an open invitation kind of thing. We have a ton of food & whoever wants to stop by, can. Very casual;no appointment necessary. Could they be under the impression this is one of those type of things?

From what I'm reading, it sounds like this is about more than Christmas Eve.Chat Icon

We are italian so we usually do the fish and pasta Chat Icon and we are not the type that just show up...everything is usually very formal. That is what is making me so angy.

I would definently call back. If it were me, I know my mom always makes 12 dishes- a dish for each apostle (I love Xmas Eve with my mom, lol) Also since its your DDs first Christmas I would want her experience to be a happy memorable one.

Re: WWYD? So annoyed UPDATE

DEFINITELY call to confirm, but I'd have to assume since they didn't get back to you they're not coming??? It's incredibly rude that you have to 'chase' them for an RSVP though. If it were me, I'd be cooking just for DH and DC, if they dared to just show up they'd be given the leftover Chinese food fermenting in the refrigerator. But that's just me.

Ugggh just saw your update. That s*cks and I'm sorry they're being so weird. Try to enjoy the day anyway, its your baby's 1st Christmas so that by definition will make it wonderful. Whatever the "root" of the issue is will be worked out, don't fret over it on Christmas.

Definitely call and open communication--although you shouldnt have to. I dont know if its about anything else sicne I dont know your family but I think it is unfair for him not to give you an answer considering this milestone in DD's life.

Re: WWYD? So annoyed UPDATE

Sorry to hear this, from their response that "they are going to take a pass" I agree that there is probably more going on.

However, I wouldn't try to get into now, it could just ruin you holiday. I would do you own thing for Christmas Eve-either make other plans or start your own family tradition this year.

Since it is DDs first, it is the perfect opportunity to start your own traditions in your own homeChat Icon

Honestly I would let your Dad know (after the holidays) how very hurt you were that they didn't come and waited till the last minute to tell you. I would also mention that it was DD's first Christmas and you felt like they didn't care at all.Chat Icon

Merry Christmas!!Chat Icon
