WWYD? Swine Flu related (Update)
I teach in an educational complex. There are 6 schools in our building. We don't have windows, just recirculated air.
One of the teachers in the building posted that she was dxed with Swine Flu. Yesterday, I felt like complete and utter Sh*t! I felt as if some one took a baseball bat and beat me up. I had a very low grade fever and chills. Although, I feel slightly better today, I am still moving really slowly.
I don't think I can go to the dr tomorrow as my dr is Jewish and so is her partner.
I really don't want to go to the er. As that could mean hours of sitting with other sick people.
But, I have two little ones at home who are both sick as well. I just don't know what to do!
UPDATE: No Swine Flu for me! By late afternoon I was feeling so much better. I think it was a 24-36 hr. bug or something! I know though that in my next job, I am going to make sure it has windows that can be opened!

I would go to the doctor. There are many of those Emergency Walk in Places. Where are you located. Maybe we can suggest one?

I would go to a walk-in on my insurance Even if you don't have the flu, you can get on an antibiotic & feel better faster.

Re: WWYD? Swine Flu related
You could go to a walk-in urgent care center to get a flu test, although this will only tell you if you have the regular flu. There is no rapid test for the swine flu yet. The good this will do is to see if you need to quarantine yourself from work and your children. Otherwise, if you are having mild flu-like symptoms and do no have underlying illness/pregnancy it is really not necessary to see a physician.

I disagree with this. I have heard of several deaths of individuals that did not have underlying health conditions (one I read on this board).

Re: WWYD? Swine Flu related
The problem is that if its flu (swine or otherwise) there isn't much they can do.
I'm just getting over being sick for 2 1/2 weeks and it started pretty much as you describe. I went to my doctor who told me it was "probably flu" given the chills, fevers and aches. When I asked which one, he told me "probably seasonal" but he really wasn't sure and wasn't inclined to test.
I went on day 5 only because it was becoming respiratory at that point and wanted to make sure it wasn't in my chest. He also told me that he wouldn't have prescribed tamiflu, even if I was there earlier because I didn't "fit" into one of the CDC's categories.
After reading a lot online, I'm convinced that I had swine flu and that a lot of people have it.
My good friend who got sick a week later was given a Z pack because her doctor thought he heard " a little something" in her chest. Unfortunately, she finished the Z pack a week ago and still feels lousy. When she called the doctor back, she also got the its probably flu song and dance.
So take care of yourself. Although I felt pretty lousy, after the first few days I was functioning, just tired. In your case, I might get seen sooner, rather than later, only because you work with kids.

Re: WWYD? Swine Flu related
I think if it is the Flu all they can do is give you Tamiflu - However, like another poster said - I read they are only prescribing that now where you fall into a high risk category - I could be wrong though. Also, my OB told me that in order to be really effective you have to start taking Tamifly within the first 36 hours of symptoms. So, if you do think you want to take it - time might be of the essence...
I hope you feel better soon and its just a quick bug rather than the flu

Re: WWYD? Swine Flu related (Update)
I had the same thing last week- low grade fever, chills, and body aches from hell. Like you, it cleared in a few days. You were probably just run down like I was. Glad you are feeling better now!
