yay or nay, bottle warmer
we got the First Years bottle warmer for our shower and I am debating returning it. I did register for it but half of the bottles that I plan to use wont even fit it in (the tommee tippee)
it would be nice to have bottles ready in the nursery for night-time feedings but the more I think about it, it isnt THAT necessary?
return or keep? are you planning on using one?

Re: yay or nay, bottle warmer
My sister said that if your using the liquid formula which has to be refrigerated thats when you use the bottle warmer.
If your using the powder then room temp. bottled water if fine so you wont need the warmer.

Never had one, never missed it.
Also - you do not necessarily want your DC being used to a warm bottle. What happens when you are out & about and don't have access to a bottle warmer or a hot cup of water?

Return! You can run the bottles under warm water in the bathroom upstairs.

thats a great point. we are planning to use powder (if we do not BF) so i can have 2-3 bottles with room temp water in the nursery and then just add the powder (why didnt i think of that?! )

Re: yay or nay, bottle warmer
waste of $$
The baby nurse we hired when DD was born liked using it. Once she left us, I put it away, just one more thing taking room on my counter.
For me, I just put the bottle in a cup of hot water and let it warm up while I change DD's diaper.

This was the best advice anyone gave me before DS was born. I'd return the bottle warmer!

2 things about this. I still didn't use bottle warmer, but I could not use powder formula with DS because it was too gassy for him AND you should check with your pediatrician about using bottled warmer. Some say ok, some say no and want you to boil water and use that. Just an FYI.

Re: yay or nay, bottle warmer
I plan to BF so when I pump and store we'll need a warmer to warm the refridgerated milk up. So I'm keeping the one I got (same as yours). If BFing doesn't work out and I go to formula, than I'll return it.

Re: yay or nay, bottle warmer
I'd return it. I never needed a bottle warmer. I started giving my DD bottles from the fridge or at room temperature after she proved way too impatient to wait for the bottle to actually warm up.
This horrifies most people for some very strange reason, but everything I read said that it makes absolutely no difference... and it made my life MUCH easier.

Re: yay or nay, bottle warmer
I LOVE mine!! Use it for every bottle... Not even to get it "warm" but sometimes the water in the bottles (we use flitered) are not excatly room temp. She screamed at first bc the water was to cold. And it makes it soooo much easier when we are up stairs and we can just put the bottle in it, turn it on and go change her or something and within a minute or so it's done! I hated standing in the bathroom or kitchen running the water over the bottle.
Oh, and we use powder too!

Re: yay or nay, bottle warmer
We had one for DS and used it all the time.
It is so convenient for warming up bottles. I know some people say you don't want to get a baby used to only have warm bottles, but I felt like cold ones were just harsher on their little bellies.

Re: yay or nay, bottle warmer
Eh. It is a personal choice. We warm the bottles in the sink with warm water if it is too cold.

Re: yay or nay, bottle warmer
We got the bottle warmed with the cooler attached to that for 1am and 4 am feedings so we didn't have to go downstairs. We kept it in our room. Worked for us. Only used it for about 2.5 months until she started sleeping through the night. We'll probably do the same for this one.

If you fall in love with the Tommee Tippee bottles like I did, you wont use it anyway. I say return it-I microwave a cup of water and stick her bottle in for 2 minutes.

this is the problem. i registered for the warmer before I knew about the tommee tippee bottles. i also have Dr. Brown's which fit. The Tommee Tippee do not I loved the idea of having two bottles cold, already made and then you just heat them but we can manage without it

Re: yay or nay, bottle warmer
I have it.......total waste IMO. Also, if you plan on using Playtex Drop Ins you can't even use it because it will melt the bottles. A hot cup of steaming water worked great!

Re: yay or nay, bottle warmer
We never warmed bottles for DD or DS. We either fed them at room temp or cold from the fridge.

Re: yay or nay, bottle warmer
I find that people either love them or hate them.
Me, I absolutely LOVED mine, and wound up getting a 2nd one for upstairs. We still use it every morning--DD is still hanging on to her morning bottle, and we keep it in the mini-fridge in our room and heat it up without getting out of bed.
Running it under warm water takes WAY more time, and wastes a lot of water to boot!
If you are using the Dr. Brown's bottles, I'd recommend hanging onto it. I got my DD used to bottles and nursing from the very beginning, so we used to heat up at least 1-2 bottles a day from the first day she was home. We bring it on trips with us. It's a lifesaver!
