The OBSESSION with free food!

I can understand a cookie plate in the kitchen left over from a meeting in the afternoon when you are craving a sweet... but, some people are WAY too enthusiastic when it comes to free breakfast, lunch, etc.

And after that-- people are just total vultures as well-- devouring every last morsel of food like they would need to wound an animal in order to get their next meal.

I think there can be a whole series on National Geographic discussing the behaviors of humans in an office setting when free food is presented.

Am I alone in noticing this?

It's a free for all here when that happens. Once a meeting is over it's every man/woman and beast for themselves.

I usually over order but lately I'm ordering just what I need.

oh my god I used to notice the same thing when i worked at goldman!!! VULTURES!!!!

Here, all of the food is free (free breakfast, lunch & snacks) so there isnt any appeal to anything extra....

It is SICK. I mean you said it when you said VULTURES.

Some people are just unbelievable. Stale sandwhiches are not a life or death situation.

OMG I totally agree!!! It doesnt even matter if they already ate their meal. If its free, they come bounding down the hall like its the last chance at food ever! AND at my job its always the same people, who coincidentally sit nowhere near the kitchen.

Someone will send around an e-mail saying "Company X brought in breakfast for the office - Enjoy"
About 5 mins later it's all gone!

i love when you say "we're ordering - want anything?" they answer NO

then you say "so and so is buying", and all of a sudden they want the hungryman special!

yes.our food is delivered at 1230, i get back from an appointment at 1 pm, the last tray is scraped clean! like, scraped!
its insane! i had to go out and get my own food.

they are like scavengers!

you would think that it was their last meal on earth!

Sounds like the hogs at my office. You never see them.. hear them... or even know they exist. When the free food comes out... all of a sudden they strike up a convo. These are the same people that pass me in the hall & avoid making eye contact.

I used to work with a woman....who was VERY highly compensated (as we all were)...that would bring in Ziplock bags and when there were leftover sandwiches from a lunch meeting, she would take the coldcuts off of the sandwiches and put it in the bags that she brought in and take the meat/cheese home for her family!!

W T F??????????????????????





IMO, food leftover from meetings and such is to be eaten in the office if you wnat a snack or didnt have lunch. NOT to be taken home in doggy bags for the family!!

Randi, that is so funny you mention this. Our office administrator just sent out an email saying there was left over muffins and coffee in the conference room. Seriously - everyone around me got up and ran to the conference room!!!

What prompted this post is because today-- it was offered to our company that the building was giving us free *hot* breakfast since we just resigned the lease in the building and we have been here for 15 years. So it was a thank you...

As I was coming up in the elevator this morning- this girl said to me-- oooooohhh we have that free breakfast today!!!! I was like chill out! It's only food.... I mean, people look forward to this. AND-- my office gives us free breakfast every day anyway.

Whatever, I eat my instant oatmeal that I bring in every day at my desk.

no, you are not alone. i hate when we have luncheons and there are left overs. you have to see the swarms just to get some cold pasta and limp salad.

Someone brought a cake from home the other day and she said she put it out and when she came back a few minutes later to bring plates, utensils - more than half of it was eaten already!

It's like the last supper around here.....

You're totally right!! I've often said, of leftover pastry, candy, whatever "I'll bring it to work -- they'll eat it there" and they DO!!! It doesn't matter what it is or the fact that it is the leftovers that nobody else wanted...bring it to work and it will be gone in a day!

We don't have free food too often here. However, we'll frequently have parties that we chip in for. It's always the same people that never chip in who come in to eat and celebrate the occasion.

I had a CRAZY ex-roommate who would never bring lunch to work. She would look up where all the meetings and get the left over food from them.

She also was a little OCD, I am pretty sure she had some sort of eating disorder and would walk 30 or so blocks to and from work everyday so she didn't have to pay for a metrocard and that is only the tip of the iceburg!

OMG At my old company they would invite the other depts after the meetings to enjoy the leftover food or if you wanted to take some cookies or something for home you could.

BUT COLDCUTS?!
