We have a handful of vultures here.
On the extremely rare occasion we have free lunch which is generally pizza this one guy hovers while it's being set up and starts out by taking 3 slices, then goes back for more. Really now, who eats half a pie for lunch??
We had one guy here take home leftover sandwhiches from a holiday party that he said he was going to serve to the guests he was entertaining that evening.  He was more a cheap ba$tard then vulture.
People also leave weird stuff here. Half sandwiches with a bite taken out, a piece of a bagel. The garbage is right there -- no one is going to eat this (I hope!  )

You're totally right!! I've often said, of leftover pastry, candy, whatever "I'll bring it to work -- they'll eat it there" and they DO!!! It doesn't matter what it is or the fact that it is the leftovers that nobody else wanted...bring it to work and it will be gone in a day!
thats my favorite - whenever I have something at home to get rid of I bring it in and its gone in 5 seconds flat! Once I had a huge bag of nasty lollipops - gone!

this is the thing that baffles me the most!!
The other day someone left out an apple, with a BITE TAKEN OUT OF IT!! Well, cut out.
And it wasn't someone who just left it there by accident- because it was placed back in the basket that probably had a whole bunch of full apples earlier in the day.
Who takes a chunk of an apple-- leaves it and thinks someone else is going to say, hmmmm I only wanted 3/4 of an apple- perfect!

Whenever we have free food my job it goes fast. Something could be brought it the same day and be gone the same day. We don't even have such a big staff.

I can understand a cookie plate in the kitchen left over from a meeting in the afternoon when you are craving a sweet... but, some people are WAY too enthusiastic when it comes to free breakfast, lunch, etc.
And after that-- people are just total vultures as well-- devouring every last morsel of food like they would need to wound an animal in order to get their next meal.
I think there can be a whole series on National Geographic discussing the behaviors of humans in an office setting when free food is presented.
Am I alone in noticing this?
that's by me also. this one guy in my dept knows where to get it also

It's totally ridiculous...
To make things worse, I work in a regional office that is located in a hotel. We get all free meals in the cafeteria. (It's not as good as it sounds).
You should see the housekeeping staff pile on the food and THEN take literally like 6 or 7 pieces of fruit with them when they leave. Now, I know they probably don't make that much money, but come on! Leave some fruit for the rest of us!!!!!

My office is nuts. Sometimes clients send us a package of sweets and it's gone in less then 15 minutes.
I like to have goodies on my desk (a cookie jar, some chocolates, pretzels) and though it is for everyone I just cant believe how often I find myself refilling.

Sometimes, the secretaries and aides will do a brunch for the teachers. Now, for the most part, we all pay dues-yearly. Well, there is this one guy in our school who pays no dues but will come to the brunch (self serve) about 6 times in a day.

I hear you....I never ever ever touch anything in the office (I work in a school) unless it is wrapped.
A few weeks ago someone brought in this awesome tea for Chinese New Year..It was just the tea bags... I literally saw one of the teachers hoarding it in her shirt...Appauling!

It is sick!! When there is free food all you hear is this stampede and everyone is like - well must be free food day!
The worst was when we were going to be working late for a few days straight- they office had dinner catered --
The last night it was burritos and they made an annoucenment that it would the last night of free food -- I KID YOU NOT - someone took an extra burrito , wrapped it up and said they were bringing it home for the next day's dinner
