 i'm not surprised anymore. i can't tell you how many times i've seen the exact same thing.......the last time i was with my daughter and she said "mommy now i know why you want me to stay so close. i'd be so scared if i lost you".

I hate stories like this but as a mom of a VERY active little girl let me tell you I watch her like a hawk and it only takes a split second for her to wander off. (Which is why I rarely go shopping w/o my DH). There has been a time I have lost her. She runs so fast and yet when I have put her on a "leash" I was insulted. So as a mom its damned if you do and damned if you don't. I'm just giving you the other side.

ITA! Moms can't win. If we keep them in the stroller its- what is a 2/3/4 year old doing in a stroller? If we put a "leash" on our child- we are insulted. If we make them hold our hand and they throw a tantrum we are the parent of that kid throwing a tantrum in the store. If they walk ahead of us we are to preoccupied by ourselves to be standing next to our child.

Roosevelt Field mall is NOTHING - I see the crazies to this on Madision Ave in the middle of the city !!! - HELLO people, it's rush hour in Manhattan, your 2 year old is walking 10 feet behind you ..............Are you SERIOUS ??

No judgements here...could happen to anyone. Definitely only takes a split second - I'm glad the woman was there.
I was lucky enough to have a dd who was so far up my arse if I took a step away from her, she went off wailing like a car alarm. Not everyone is as lucky.

i totally understand your frustration but as an almost-mom, i can tell you that i won't really care how many insults i get - my child will be on a leash and that's final. my mother lost my sister at the bronx zoo once and she was hysterical - i NEVER want to go through that. other people's comments be damned!!

I used to work in a department store and you would be shocked at how many parents would drop there kids in the childrens dept. to play with all the toys and just leave them
What are these idiots thinking!
Some people do not deserve kids!!!!!!!

That poor child.
My mom and I got seperated once in a store (I think it was TSS.. back when there was a TSS!) and even though I was so young (I think I was 4) I vividly remember the fear and panic I felt when I looked up and my mom wasn't there  ... it gives me chills.
