Your Daycare's Policy on Potty Training in the Pre-K (3-5) Room

Thomas just transitioned to the pre-k room at daycare. He's been in underwear since Februray. He had a lot of accidents in the beginning. He's doing really well now, but occasionally still has accidents during naptime. He went through a period for about a month and a half where he would almost always wake up from nap dry AND wake up in the morning dry. For the past month though, he's been having more accidents during nap time and he is almost always wet in the morning. I don't know what's going on with this... Anyway, he had an accident yesterday morning during circle time. A bad one... underwear, pants and socks soaked. I'm worried about the daycare's policy and what will happen if he continues to have accidents. I'm assuming the accident was from the change in routine being in the pre-k room and hope it will get better soon, but what if it doesn't? The policy states that kids in the pre-k room MUST be potty trained. It mentions something about a 3 month grace period. I don't know if this applies to once they are put into the pre-k room or keeping them in toddler room after they turn 3 if they are not yet potty trained. I know if several cases where they did that with children, but they must have thought Thomas was "ready" because they moved him into the pre-k room right on time.

He also rarely tells us when he has to pee. He goes when he is told, and OCCASIONALLY tells us when he has to. He's never had a poopie accident and always tells us when he has to poop.

Any thoughts, advice, experience would be greatly appreciated!

I think it's probably the change of room...different kids, different teachers. Maybe talk to the superviser. Are you allowed to put pull-ups on him incase of accidents?

I would "remind" him to potty at least every 2 hours for a couple of weeks until he gets used to it.

Thanks so much!

He definitely needs to be reminded. He's able to hold it (most of the time), but he needs to be told to go... he's not at the point where he will stop what he's doing and tell you he has to go.

I felt better after talking to the teacher. She made it like it was their fault for losing track of time and not reminding him before he had an accident. She said some of the older kids still need to be remined too.

I still don't know how strict they are with their policy and what they do if accidents continue to happen in this room.

If anyone else can tell me their experience with daycare and potty training, I would really appreciate it.
