Do you write the card from whole class or only those who put in money? I hate to throw people under the bus but if they didn't contribute $$ I dont think they should go on the card...

Re: Class gift for teacher

I always just signed love your x grade class. I did not put any names on it. With that said we always had nearly 100% participation. Maybe one kid did not give in for the class gift. I would never single them out. It felt wrong to me, and I would put the money into the gift on their behalf.

The entire class. And with many families suffering right now I’d think that maybe some are having a rough time.

Our class mom sent a note asking for the money and said they would put everyone’s name on it even if we didn’t contribute.

Class gift for teacher

Definitely the entire class.
I’d never leave out a child due to their family’s financial situation.

Whole class. It would probably make the teacher feel like shiiit knowing they accepted a gift that singles out kids that couldn't contribute The point is for the teacher to feel appreciated, not the other way around.

Whole class. I was class mom once and made a point to say the card would be signed from the whole class regardless of who contributed because I didn’t want any parents to worry if they couldn’t hand in money.

It has to be from the whole class.

I do understand your frustration, as having been class mom a few times I am always surprised by the general widespread lack of participation and contributions. But you can’t exclude children based on the action or inaction of their parents.

That's what I thought initially but my other child's class mom in the other grade made it clearly known your child's name would not be on it if you didn't chip in.

Re: Class gift for teacher

I think every child should be included. But also what if the parent doesn’t participate because they want to buy their own gift? If that’s the case, they shouldn’t be included in the class gift.

I kind of feel that way as well. Last school my kids were in there was no class mom, no collections and I always just got a small gift card for the teacher $25

How will you tell the difference between a family that chooses to get their own gift and a family that can’t swing it this year? It’s not like all families will be comfortable telling you the truth if you ask. I would have compassion this year, of all years, and just include all. It’s so petty not to this year unless a family explicitly asks you not to include their child. This makes me sad. Big picture.

Class gift for teacher

I am a teacher and in the past the card has included the names of the children who contributed. I have never thought twice about it. It's not like I treat the kids who don't participate any differently.

I wouldn’t put any names at all because, with my luck, I’d accidentally leave someone out or misspell a name. I would just put Happy Holidays from your xx Grade Class “.
