We just got the email on tuesday about the class gift, $6 per child. Do you also give your own gift?

With a $6 contribution, I would probably send in something additional. If it was $20, I wouldn't.

I do the contribution which is minimal and then I do a small DD card with a mug.

I always do. My kids' teachers deserve combat pay!

Also, I kind of like to show lots of appreciation to the people who love and care for my children 30 hours a week. Chat Icon

Re: If your child's class gives the teacher a class gift for the holidays, do you also give your own?

I have this same dilemma we don't have.a class mom but a mom sent home a letter asking for 15 per child for the teacher and aide. I have twins so that's 30. I don't know this mom although I'm sure she means well, I wanted to get my own gift, but if I contribute 30 I'm not giving anything else. I don't know what to do

class gift was only a $5 contribution. I spent about $40 on an additional gift.

I do. The "class" gift contribution was $10 and I gave it, but I never know how those work - what they end up getting or whose name goes on the card, etc. I'm going to do a separate gift card as well.

I usually don't, but this year the class mom only collected $10 per child and, considering how great this teacher is, I think it should have been more. So because of that and also because my daughter goes to her very helpful extended day reading class, I am definitely getting her something extra, just from us.

Our contribution to the class gift is only 5.00, so I give something else, too.

No.

It sounds horrible, but with 2 kids, even $15 per kid adds up. I send in the money abs call it a day.

Same. I've got three kids and gave $20 each to the class collections and then $10 for DD1's basketball coach. Meanwhile, I've still got to pick things up on my own for the piano teacher and the girls' 4 dance teachers. Needless to say, I'm thankful for the alpha-moms in each class who take the time to organize the collection!

If your child's class gives the teacher a class gift for the holidays, do you also give your own?

Crashing --

My coworker was discussing teacher gifts with me yesterday. She said she contributed money for both her kids' teachers but then is going out and getting them all additional gifts. I asked her why if she contributed to the class gift and she said b/c otherwise the teachers will take it out on her kids. That in her district, you have to give beyond the class gift or else your child will get a reputation between the teachers. I told her that's ridiculous but does this really happen? I can't imagine that it's true and if it is, it's quite disgusting. She's in a good district but not an affluent one if that makes any sense.

I don't do an additional holiday gift if I contribute to a class gift but I do send in a gift for Teacher Appreciation Day and an End of the Year gift. I think that is sufficient.

Re: If your child's class gives the teacher a class gift for the holidays, do you also give your own?

Yes I always give something additional. They usually only collect $10 in our district.

As a former teacher we never "expected" anything but I have to say most parents were very generous. I worked in a private school and they collected $10 per student in the entire school and then they gave $100 to e/ teacher, $50 to each aide. Yet just about everyone gave a gift on top of that; but it was never expected, just an added bonus :D None of the teachers I know would say, "can you believe Johnny didn't give us anything, how cheap."

I asked the same question. I wound up giving an additnal gift. They collected $15 for the teacher (well I did I'm class mom) and then I gave a bath and body works gift and a box of homemade chocolates.
