Shingles

So my mom was diagnosed with shingles after she had some slight redness and swelling on the left side of her face.

She was prescribed antiviral med (like Valtrex). It has blown up a but more, but no pain. She just says it's very itchy. Anyone have any suggestions?

She is keeping a close eye on vision changes and such, but the doc said that it was caught early so he is optimistic that it may not affect her vision.

I had shingles on my face in July. It was pretty awful but I also caught it early and the anti viral worked very quickly. I felt considerably better after 48 hours on the anti viral. I did not have itch but I did have pain that I was able to treat with Advil. It's shocking to hear you have shingles, and you fear you will be out of commission for a few weeks, but I felt better pretty quickly. I hope your mom has the same experience.

I had a dime size infection on the back of my neck. I took the medication and just covered it with new sterile bandaid daily. Interestingly, I had gone into caves the day before the infection and had something drop on the exact spot where I had the mark. I made sure to wash all sheets, towels and clothing separately on HOT daily. It went away quickly.

I remember when my mom had shingles and it was the grossest thing I had ever seen. It was up her neck.

I don't mean to be gross but her skin looked like when you take cheese off of pizza. She had a severe case of it.

at first it didn't hurt but then she said she would get feel like a bolt of electricity shooting through her body.

I winded up getting her Superior Colloidal Silver gel which was recommended from a friend.

lidocaine gel!!! the only thing that helped my shingles. it's awful!!!

My mom had Shingles very bad and the antiviral was the only thing that helped.
