Always hosting
Anyone else feel like if they don't host there may not be a family get together? I think last year was the first Mother's Day I enjoyed bc I didn't have to worry about everyone else? I feel like all siblings do what they want, but I don't want the parents or IL's doing nothing so what do I do... I always offer to host. Don't get me wrong, I am happy to, but if I didn't would there be something for the moms? Dads? a holiday? LOL
My mom and MIL do host, but when it comes to certain holidays it's easier to have at my home so everyone can be together rather then splitting it up.

We made a family schedule. So we rotate through holidays.

That's smart, but we have big families so it's tough.

Always hosting
My sister always hosts. She loves/hates it. I live 3 hours away so while I do host an occasional event, it is just not feasible to host most holidays, I wish we could though. My two brother lives within 10 miles of my sister and never host.

Re: Always hosting
i haven't hosted in a long time and i miss it dearly.
back when i was a kid, everything happened at our house and my mom used to say the same.
to the OP, it kind of sounds like it your hosting works best for you and what you wish to happen. i'm going to put this question to you... would it be the end of the world if you didn't host? would you be ok with finding out what would happen if you didn't host? maybe it just means that much to YOU and this is why you've taken it on. nothing wrong with that. hell, if i had a real house where i could fit my relatives, i would host a lot of occasions even if i complained a lot.
this is one of the reasons i look forward to the day DS has a family. i dream of hosting all the things!

Always hosting
I just stopped having a holiday with family then. Everyone always expected us to host and I’m like well I’m not hosting so see you next holiday. People got the hint eventually

We do love our house for that reason, but it's just funny that on holidays like mother's day everyone else is like.. what am I doing today and I'm thinking... I want to see my mom and MIL so will invite everyone over. I don't mind certain holidays or just dinners, but when it comes to others would be nice not to be the 1st one to ask what should we do so mom is happy

Re: Always hosting
Yep, my mother passed away many years ago, and my MIL NEVER hosts anything, except Christmas eve. I rather host to be honest, because I will never go out to eat on Mother's Day ever again. But this year we will probably do nothing. My one son has 2 hockey games. One at 10:15 am, and 3:40 pm, so we will probably get take-out.

Re: Always hosting
I host every holiday.....every holiday
It's my own fault- I want to have both sides and I know my Dad wouldn't go to my SIL for a holiday - so to accomplish this I do them.
I get annoyed sometimes, the expense that goes into hosting is crazy and if you've never hosted you don't get it- so that's annoying, but again it is my choice.
My Mom and MIL are both past, so I only have Mother's Day with my kids and DH
