Schools have every right to ask for proof of vaccination if they wish, especially state schools. If they are asking for vaccinations then there should not be masks for those that took it.
Exactly. I know it's a pain to police it - who has to wear a mask and who doesn't ,but there has to be a way. A notation on their ID card, something.

If I were a college kid and the vaccine wasn't required at my school, my incentive to get it MIGHT be if they said- hey if you have it and can prove it you don't' have to wear a mask in class At that age, they aren't too worried about getting seriously ill from Covid. That age group is notoriously invincible in their minds. Not to mention the statistics are in their favor as well.
But they may get it for something like not having to wear a mask. So if the goal is to incentivize people to get it, they might want to consider that. If you still have to wear a mask after getting it- I would imagine many just wont get it then.
ETA- and now I'm hearing stories in the other thread about doctors telling fully vaccinated, otherwise healthy people, to double mask on public transportation. So does the vaccine work, or no? If it works why are they telling you to double mask? I don't get it at all.
Actually the stats I put up yesterday said 64% of college kids have been vaccinated. What is the incentive though if you are on the fence or don’t want the vaccine? None it seems.
The double masking is just ridiculous. I agree what is the point of getting vaccinate then? There is absolutely NO common sense anymore in this world.

Agreed but seems to not be the story for at least some schools.

But how would they do that in all buildings? I can see in class but walking around inside?

Re: College and masks
I work at a university in NJ which has required the vaccine for all students, staff and faculty. We had to report vaccine status and have to be vaxxed by August 1. Obviously they are allowing medical/religious exemptions, but they have now lifted the mask mandate and social distancing both indoors and outdoors for the vaccinated. The onus is on the unvaccinated to wear masks and social distance. The faculty and staff will not be expected to police this, and that has been made explicitly clear, but the expectation is that those individuals (which will be a small number due to the requirement) are responsible enough to follow these rules based on their vaccination status. They have of course also said it's all subject to change based on local public health conditions/restrictions. They are also continuing the asymptomatic testing program for both vaccinated and unvaccinated - as of now, unvaccinated will be tested 2x/week (it's a saliva test that you just drop off to be processed), vaccinated 1x/week, until they see how it's going. I have a feeling they may drop this lower if community numbers are really low.
During the spring, when students were back on campus but MOST classes were virtual and there were many more strict policies as students weren't vaccine-eligible yet (quarantine upon arrival, etc.), they did asymptomatic testing of everyone 2x/week and with that and the restrictions, numbers were extremely low throughout.

So at this point what is the incentive of getting vaccinated? I get that you are less likely to get severe symptoms and die, but if I can walk into a store without a mask and not be vaccinated and yet I have to wear a mask while sitting in a college classroom regardless of my vaccination status, what is the incentive, especially to younger people?
You're not supposed to walk into a store without a mask if you're not vaccinated.
Really?!
what people are SUPPOSED to do and what people ACTUALLY do are 2 diff things.

This is what most hospitals do about flu shots. You get a sticker on your ID when you get your flu shot and if you don’t have a sticker you have to wear a mask.

It works, but nothing is 100% effective, and their doctor doesn't want them to get COVID. They were fine with it. They don't want COVID either, even with reduced symptoms, and I don't blame them.

I would tell them to go get a second opinion as even the CDC is not saying this anymore. This might be doing mite harm to them.

So if that's the case, then everyone should be double masking even with the vaccine because NOBODY wants Covid

Even my child’s doctor who in the past had 2 masks and a shield is only wearing 1 mask now.

THANK you. They don't want a second opinion. They trust their doctors, who have excellent credentials, btw, and who aren't saying double mask in all situations. They're specifically saying to do so on public transportation because of poor ventilation and that pesky Delta variant. I wasn't saying this for a debate. I was sharing their experience, an experience that didn't bother them but served as a reminder to all of us to stay cautious. I don't see why anyone would have a problem with this. Do what you want -- they'll wear masks as they see fit. I'm thrilled they listen to their doctors so they can be as safe as possible, which is the only thing that matters to me.

Her point is if no one can and will ask you outside of the classroom, then what is the incentive to get vaccinated?
Colleges (or at least mine did) required immunization records to be registered so if they mandate and you don’t vaccinate they would likely just decline registration. When I dormed in college they required the meningitis vaccine so it was needed with registration. No one will need to stand outside classrooms, they will likely just require it at registration and then anyone without the vaccine I would assume they just do not register them? I’m sure the process will have kinks

My daughters college is mandating the vaccine and they received thousands of religious and medical exemption letters from people who won't get the vaccine. If they didn't allow all of them to register, they'd have to close down.

I know at NYU, to get into any building, you need to scan your ID to get in. If you did not provide proof of vaccination, your ID won't work and you can't enter the building.

No clue but as of this fall semester, all have to wear masks as some schools.

Re: College and masks
I’m so confused why people don’t understand why a college or other institution or company would require masks for vaccinated people as well. If we truly are being logical and realistic, it makes total sense. The science and the statistics are pointing to the fact that vaccines are working to some extent HOWEVER it is also FACT that: 1. Some people get the vaccine and still have little to no immunity. Many are walking around thinking they are immune and are not. This is often attributable to an underlying condition or medication but not always. It’s been all over the news (just google) and in real life I know of two people with conditions that were indicated in this whose doctors had them test and they had no immunity whatsoever. Who knows how many people are in this boat? No one does. Unless you have tested after vaccination you have no idea if you are immune or not. 2. Fully vaccinated or not you can still get and spread covid! Look at cat sandler most recently in the headlines. There have also been several reports of covid outbreaks at events that all were and required to be fully vaccinated! Some mild cases, some hospitalization. 3. Pfizer wants their third booster approved because they are saying studies are showing waning immunity! Many got their shots more than 6 months ago so who knows what this will mean if covid starts spreading rampantly? 4. There were so many breakthrough cases that the cdc stopped counting unless they led to hospitalization. Also, my friends who have the vaccine who have gotten sick don’t even test for covid because they think that’s not what they have. So given this we have no idea the scope of infections circulating around fully vaccinated. 5. There are non vaccinated people who are asymptomatic or have very mild cases. We were so worried about them we were random testing. Same is true about vaccinated.
I could go on and on - my point is - and not debating here If masks work or not - just saying if an institution is requiring masks to prevent an outbreak of the virus then it would make logical sense to have everyone wear the masks for all the reasons listed above and more. This is NOT the mmr or the polio vaccine! Not sure why anyone is still assuming covid vaccinated means you can’t get or spread covid? We can all hope that having the vaccine means you won’t get very ill but some people have even fully vaccinated and still will! Many people had covid without a vaccine and had it very mild but we were still worried about covid! I think the reason behind the masking of vaccinated AND unvaccinated is obvious if you are assuming as these institutions seem to be that masks work - otherwise I don’t see the point in bothering. Masking the few unvaccinated in the schools that require vaccines won’t make one bit of difference.

That’s not what I was saying at all! I was just saying that IF an institution, company etc. Wants to institute a masking policy to prevent the spread THEN it would make logical sense for this to be effective at all to require it for ALL. Unless something changes (and hopefully it does) the facts surrounding the vaccines currently don’t warrant a distinction between vaccinated and unvaccinated in this scenario to achieve max effectiveness.

So by that logic, we will all have to wear masks for the rest of our lives.

Re: College and masks
I just asked my other who is going out of state who it was mandatory to get vaccinated, they have to wear masks too.
All ridiculous as they are pushing these vaccines BUT we don’t trust them enough so let’s all still wear masks a year and a half later.

Congratulations! I guess you graduated from medical school this week???
Public transportation has to be as high risk as it gets.
It's indoors, in cramped quarters, with questionable air circulation. You might be there for a while and you don't know who you are next to.
Worst of all, not only can you rarely socially distance, sometimes you are abnormally close to people. I've ridden the NYC subway many times when I was involuntarily pressed up against someone so tightly I probably should have taken Plan B when I got home.
I'm not a doctor but it sounds reasonable to me that that is a place for extra precautions.

I assume you haven’t gone to any places indoor or outdoor then like clubs and places where people are in close quarters for hours. No spikes have happened from them.
